New Delhi, Sept 30: Silver in India held at ₹2,400 per 10 grams nationally on Wednesday morning, translating to ₹240 per gram and ₹2,40,000 per kilogram. The reading matches Tuesday’s national level, but with one notable shift: the small premium that Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala had carried through the week has disappeared, bringing all ten major cities tracked to the same ₹2,400 per 10 grams for the first time in several sessions. Silver price in India is largely determined by international prices, which move the 10-gram rate in either direction through the day, and rates remain subject to revision as trading progresses.

Seven of the 10 cities, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, were unchanged from Tuesday at ₹2,400 per 10 grams. Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala fell ₹49 each, from ₹2,449 to ₹2,400, erasing the small gap that had persisted since Monday even as the rest of the country moved in step. The convergence leaves silver rates uniform nationwide for the first time this week.

Retail buyers have continued to treat silver as a lower-cost entry point into precious metals, helped by its far smaller per-gram price compared with gold. Investors looking to gain exposure to the metal without the hassle of storage or purity checks could consider Silver ETFs, which track the metal’s price rather than requiring physical delivery.

Silver jewellery and ornaments typically cost more than the flat 10-gram rates listed above once making charges are added, along with a 3 per cent GST levied on metallic silver. Buyers should factor in these additional costs before comparing quoted bullion rates against what a jeweller ultimately charges at the counter. Rates published here are indicative, so dealers advise confirming the final price with a local jeweller or bullion dealer before any purchase.

With the festive season drawing closer, jewellers said footfall for silver coins, idols and small gift items has remained steady, with most buyers in a wait-and-watch mode ahead of Navratri and Diwali. Wednesday’s convergence to a single national rate has left dealers watching whether the uniformity holds through the week or the southern premium re-emerges. Bulk buyers of coins and bars for gifting later in the year remain most sensitive to such swings, since even a modest move adds up at kilogram scale.

Jewellery Stocks Today

Shares of listed jewellery and bullion-linked companies were mixed in mid-morning trade on Wednesday, with the broader market little changed. The Nifty 50 was trading around 22,707, down marginally by about 0.04 per cent, with Gift Nifty futures down 0.26 per cent. PN Gadgil Jewellers and Vaibhav Global were higher, while Senco Gold and Silgo Retail were lower, with Vaibhav Global the session’s standout gainer.

Vaibhav Global opened at ₹203.25 against a previous close of ₹202.89, climbed steadily through the morning to a high of ₹209.38, and was trading at ₹205.97, up 1.52 per cent, though below its volume-weighted average price of ₹207.67 after giving back part of its early gains. PN Gadgil Jewellers opened flat at ₹585.00 against a previous close of ₹585.05, touched a high of ₹595.00, then eased through the session to trade at ₹589.15, up 0.70 per cent and just below its VWAP of ₹591.34.

Senco Gold opened at ₹329.00 against a previous close of ₹328.30, touched a high of ₹332.70 early on, then slid through the morning to a low of ₹327.30 and was trading right at that level, down 0.30 per cent and below its VWAP of ₹330.30. Silgo Retail opened flat at ₹70.49 against a previous close of ₹70.49, briefly touched a high of ₹71.09, then fell to a low of ₹69.92 before trading at ₹70.33, down a marginal 0.23 per cent and just below its VWAP of ₹70.36.

Market watchers said the split outcome, with two counters higher and two lower even as the broader market stayed nearly flat, points to stock-specific positioning rather than a clean read-through from silver’s steady rate. Vaibhav Global’s climb to a fresh intraday high was the sharpest move among the four, while Senco Gold’s slide from its opening level to a fresh intraday low stood out as the weakest performance.

Order book data showed selling pressure dominated on three of the four counters. Sell orders made up 62.36 per cent of total quantity on Senco Gold and 63.30 per cent on PN Gadgil Jewellers, even though PN Gadgil ended the morning higher, while Vaibhav Global saw 64.55 per cent sell-side quantity despite its gains. Silgo Retail was the only counter where buying led, at 60.47 per cent of total quantity, even as the stock traded lower.
