Mumbai, Sept 6: Indian equity markets are likely to take cues from a busy global macroeconomic calendar in the week ahead, with investors tracking key inflation and growth data from the US, Japan and China, alongside developments in crude oil markets. US consumer inflation, producer prices, weekly jobless claims and the OPEC and IEA monthly reports will be among the key triggers for global markets.

The week will begin on a relatively quiet note with US markets shut for Labor Day, while investors will monitor Germany’s industrial production and euro zone GDP data. Attention will then shift to Asia, with Japan’s second-quarter GDP and China’s August trade data due on Tuesday, followed by Chinese inflation figures on Wednesday.

The second half of the week is likely to see heightened volatility as markets digest US producer price inflation, jobless claims and the August consumer price index. The readings could influence expectations around the US Federal Reserve’s interest-rate trajectory and global fund flows into emerging markets such as India.

Crude oil prices will also remain in focus, with the OPEC monthly report, US crude inventory data and the IEA monthly report scheduled during the week. Domestically, investors will track India’s foreign exchange reserves data, while several companies will turn ex-date for dividends and corporate actions.

Monday, September 7

US markets closed for Labor Day: US equity and bond markets will remain shut on Monday for the Labor Day holiday, potentially resulting in thinner trading volumes across global markets. The absence of US participants could keep Asian and European markets relatively subdued at the start of the week.

Germany industrial production: Germany will release July industrial production data. The numbers will offer clues on the performance of Europe’s largest economy and could influence expectations around the region’s growth outlook.

Euro zone Q2 GDP: Second-quarter GDP data for the euro zone will also be released, with investors assessing the pace of economic expansion and the resilience of the region amid still-elevated borrowing costs and uneven industrial activity.

Transpek Industry: Shares of Transpek Industry will turn ex-date for a dividend of ₹20 per share, making the stock one of the domestic corporate actions to watch at the start of the week.

HEG: HEG will turn ex-date for its demerger, with investors tracking the corporate restructuring and its implications for shareholders.

Tuesday, September 8

Japan Q2 GDP: Japan’s second-quarter GDP data will be a key Asian macro trigger. The figures will provide an update on the strength of the Japanese economy and could influence expectations around the Bank of Japan’s policy normalisation path.

Japan bank lending: August bank lending data from Japan will also be released, providing a gauge of credit demand and financial activity in the economy.

China exports: China’s August export data will be closely watched for signs of resilience in external demand. Any significant change in exports could influence sentiment toward Asian equities and industrial commodities, while also providing clues on the health of China’s manufacturing sector.

APL Apollo Tubes: APL Apollo Tubes will turn ex-date for a ₹8.50-per-share dividend.

KDDL: KDDL will turn ex-date for a ₹8-per-share dividend.

TVS Holdings: TVS Holdings will turn ex-date for its scheme of arrangement involving bonus NCRPS in a 46:1 ratio, making the corporate action a key domestic event for shareholders.

Wednesday, September 9

China CPI: China’s August consumer price inflation data will be closely watched for signs of improvement in domestic demand. Weak inflation could reinforce concerns about subdued consumption and deflationary pressures in the world’s second-largest economy.

China PPI: Producer price inflation data will also be released, offering insight into pricing pressures at the factory gate. Persistent weakness in producer prices could raise concerns over industrial profitability and demand conditions in China.

Together, the CPI and PPI readings could influence sentiment across Asian markets, particularly sectors and commodities with significant exposure to Chinese demand.

Thursday, September 10

US crude inventories: The US API weekly crude oil stock data will provide an early indication of changes in American oil inventories. A larger-than-expected drawdown could support crude prices, while an increase in stocks could weigh on prices.

OPEC monthly report: OPEC’s monthly oil market report will be another major trigger for energy markets. Investors will look for updates on global oil demand, supply expectations and the outlook for the crude market.

US PPI: August producer price inflation in the US will be closely monitored ahead of the CPI release. A stronger-than-expected reading could reinforce concerns over persistent inflation and affect expectations for US interest rates.

US jobless claims: Weekly initial jobless claims will provide a fresh snapshot of labour-market conditions. Any signs of weakening employment could influence expectations around the Federal Reserve’s policy path and broader risk appetite.

Friday, September 11

Japan PPI: Japan’s August producer price inflation data will offer clues on domestic cost pressures and could feed into expectations surrounding the Bank of Japan’s monetary policy.

UK GDP: Britain’s GDP data will provide an update on economic growth and could influence expectations for the Bank of England’s policy trajectory.

IEA monthly report: The International Energy Agency’s monthly oil market report will be closely watched for changes to its global demand and supply forecasts. Together with the OPEC report and US inventory data, it could set the tone for crude prices and energy-sensitive equities.

India FX reserves: India’s foreign exchange reserves data will provide an update on the country’s external-sector position and the Reserve Bank of India’s reserve buffer.

US CPI: The August US consumer price inflation report will be the week’s most important macroeconomic trigger. Investors will scrutinise headline and core inflation for clues on the future path of US interest rates. A hotter-than-expected reading could pressure equities and emerging-market currencies, while softer inflation could improve global risk appetite.

Medi Assist Healthcare Services: Shares of Medi Assist Healthcare Services will turn ex-date for a ₹2-per-share dividend, marking the final major corporate action on the week’s calendar.
