Apollo Micro Systems has been empanelled by the Indian Air Force as the Prime Development Agency for the IPREK programme, marking its entry into India’s indigenous precision-guided munitions ecosystem, while shares traded lower.

Mumbai July, 28: Apollo Micro Systems Ltd. has been formally empanelled by the Indian Air Force (IAF) as the Prime Development Agency (DA) for the Indigenous Precision Range Extension Kit (IPREK) programme under the Make-II (Industry Funded) category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020.
The selection places the Hyderabad-based defence electronics company in one of the country’s most strategically significant indigenous weapons development programmes. Unlike conventional supply contracts, the empanelment positions Apollo Micro Systems to design, develop and qualify a precision-guided weapon system that could eventually be inducted by the armed forces after successful prototype development and trials.
According to the company, the IPREK programme is designed to convert India’s existing inventory of 500-kg general-purpose bombs into long-range precision-guided weapons. The guidance kit enables stand-off strikes from 80-100 kilometres, allowing aircraft to engage targets from well beyond the reach of many air defence systems.
Apollo said the system integrates NavIC (IRNSS) satellite navigation along with electro-optical, infrared and DSMAC terminal guidance technologies, enabling accurate engagement even in GPS-denied environments.
The company described the empanelment as its formal entry into India’s precision-guided munition segment, an area that has historically seen high import dependence and is increasingly becoming a focus of indigenous defence manufacturing.
Stock Market Snapshot
TheApollo Micro Systems share price was ₹381.80 as of 12:42 PM IST on July 28, 2026, down ₹11.15, or 2.84%, from the previous close.
The stock remained under pressure through most of the trading session despite the strategic nature of the announcement. Market participants often distinguish between technology milestones and immediate revenue-generating contracts, with the latter typically having a more direct impact on financial projections.
However, investors generally view participation in flagship defence programmes as an opportunity to build long-term capabilities that can translate into future production orders if development milestones are successfully achieved.

Why The IPREK Programme Matters
The Make-II route under DAP 2020 requires industry to fund prototype development, while the government commits to procurement once the system successfully meets operational requirements. This makes empanelment an important first step rather than the final commercial award.
For Apollo Micro Systems, becoming the Prime Development Agency means it will play the lead role in designing and developing the indigenous precision guidance kit.
The company believes the programme opens the door to a broader precision-guided weapons opportunity. It estimates India’s precision-guided munitions import substitution market at more than ₹20,000 crore over the next decade, while the global precision weapons market is projected to reach around $10 billion by 2032.
Beyond the IPREK programme itself, Apollo said the technologies developed through the project, including indigenous navigation, mission computing and precision guidance, could be adapted for future missile and guided-weapon programmes across the armed forces.
Conclusion
Apollo Micro Systems’ empanelment as the Prime Development Agency for the IAF’s IPREK programme represents a strategic milestone rather than an immediate order win. The selection places the company at the centre of an indigenous effort to develop long-range precision-guided munitions under the Make-II procurement framework.
While commercial benefits will depend on successful development, trials and eventual procurement, the announcement strengthens Apollo’s position in India’s expanding defence technology ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Apollo Micro Systems share price traded at ₹381.80, down 2.84% as of 12:42 PM IST on July 28, 2026.
