Mumbai, June 1: Compressed natural gas prices edged higher in Mumbai and Chennai at the start of the new week on Monday, June 1, even as most other major cities held their rates steady for a third successive session. Mumbai saw a ₹2.00 per kg increase to ₹86.00, while Chennai recorded a ₹1.00 per kg rise to ₹96.00 the only two cities in the current dataset to register any movement on Monday.

Delhi, NCR and the remaining ten cities in the survey continued to hold at Friday’s levels, suggesting that the broad-based stability of the past two sessions remains intact across most of the country’s major CNG markets.

Mumbai’s revision to ₹86.00 per kg takes it ₹2.00 above its Friday close of ₹84.00 and makes it notably more expensive than Delhi’s ₹83.09 a reversal of the typical relationship between the two cities, which have historically been closely priced. The ₹2.00 hike in Mumbai follows a ₹3.00 cumulative increase the city absorbed since May 15 and reflects the continued pass-through of elevated natural gas input costs by distribution companies in Maharashtra. Chennai’s ₹1.00 revision to ₹96.00 per kg brings the Tamil Nadu capital within ₹1 of Hyderabad, Firozabad and Mathura, which all stand at ₹97.00 and represent the most expensive CNG cities in the current dataset.

Delhi and the NCR continue to retail CNG at ₹83.09 per kg, unchanged since the last revision, which had already incorporated a ₹6.00 cumulative hike since May 15. The capital’s rate has been the subject of particular focus given its large CNG vehicle fleet one of the largest in the country and the sensitivity of auto-rickshaw, taxi and bus operators to fuel cost movements.

Hyderabad, Firozabad and Mathura remain the joint-most expensive markets at ₹97.00 per kg, followed by Chennai at ₹96.00 and Bangalore, Bharatpur and Dewas at ₹95.00–95.50. Rewari, which recorded the steepest cumulative rise of ₹5.99 since May 15 to reach ₹87.70, held flat on Monday along with Sonipat (₹92.50), Meerut (₹89.70) and Bharatpur (₹95.00).
