New Delhi, May 26: Consumers in Delhi-NCR faced yet another increase in fuel costs on Tuesday as Indraprastha Gas Limited raised compressed natural gas prices by Rs 2 per kg, the fourth revision in less than a fortnight, as state-run fuel retailers continued passing on the impact of elevated global crude oil prices driven by the ongoing US-Iran conflict and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
With effect from 6 am on May 26, CNG in Delhi now costs Rs 83.09 per kg. The latest hike follows a Re 1 per kg increase on May 23, a Re 1 per kg rise on May 17, and a Rs 2 per kg hike on May 15 taking the cumulative increase over just 11 days to Rs 6 per kg from the pre-hike level of Rs 77.09. Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad saw rates rise to Rs 91.70 per kg, while Gurugram now stands at Rs 88.12 per kg, both reflecting the same Rs 6 cumulative increase as Delhi.
Despite the successive CNG hikes, prices of piped natural gas supplied to households and domestic LPG cylinders have remained unchanged so far, providing some relief to residential consumers even as transport costs climb. Petrol and Diesel prices were hiked for the fourth time on Monday in 10 days.
The pressure on CNG prices is being felt across the country. Among major cities, Hyderabad and Firozabad are now the most expensive at Rs 97.00 per kg, followed by Mathura also at Rs 97.00. Bangalore and Chennai have both risen to Rs 95.00 per kg with Bangalore seeing one of the steepest single-revision increases of Rs 5.00 and Sonipat recording a Rs 5.90 jump to Rs 92.50. Meerut rose Rs 3.65 to Rs 89.70, while Chennai climbed Rs 3.50 to Rs 95.00. Mumbai held steady at Rs 81.00 per kg with no change, as did Hyderabad at Rs 97.00 and Rewari at Rs 81.71.
