Mumbai September, 02: Coal India Limited reported a 5.5% year-on-year increase in total coal supplies to 60.60 million tonnes (MT) in August FY27, compared with 57.40 MT in the same month last year.
The company also recorded growth in supplies to the power sector, which rose 4.5% to 48.46 MT during August, from 46.39 MT in August FY26.
Supplies to the non-regulated sector (NRS) grew at a faster pace, increasing 9.6% to 12.12 MT from 11.06 MT a year earlier.
For the first five months of FY27 through August, Coal India’s total supplies stood at 322.90 MT, compared with 302.60 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year. That represents growth of 6.7%.

The Coal India share price remained firmly above the ₹415 level at the latest available price, with the stock showing a stronger performance during the morning session.

Higher Supplies Help Reduce Pithead Inventory
Coal India’s higher supplies during the first five months of FY27 have also helped the company liquidate around 55 MT of pithead coal stocks, according to the company.
Coal India currently has approximately 76 MT of coal available at its pitheads. The company said this inventory provides sufficient stock to support power generation requirements in the coming months.
The supply growth is particularly relevant for the power sector, where Coal India remains a major domestic fuel supplier. The 4.5% increase in August power-sector supplies came alongside the broader rise in overall dispatches.
Company Prepares To Ramp Up Production And Supplies
With the intense monsoon period gradually receding, Coal India said it is preparing to increase both production and supplies as the drier months approach.
The August figures extend the company’s positive supply trend into the fifth month of FY27. Total supplies of 322.90 MT through August were 20.30 MT higher than the 302.60 MT recorded during the corresponding period of FY26.
The company has also reduced its pithead inventory through higher dispatches, while retaining a sizeable stock position ahead of the coming months.
Conclusion
