Mumbai, May 6: Gold prices in India bounced back on Wednesday, reversing Tuesday’s retreat as easing tensions in the Middle East — following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a pause in the Strait of Hormuz escort operation — revived risk-on sentiment but simultaneously lifted the precious metal on safe-haven demand recalibration.
The national benchmark for 24-karat gold (99.9% purity) rose to ₹1,51,310 per 10 grams, a gain of ₹2,130 from Tuesday’s rate of ₹1,49,180. The 22-karat rate (91.6% purity) climbed to ₹1,38,700 per 10 grams, up ₹1,950 from Tuesday’s ₹1,36,750. The 18-karat rate (75% purity) advanced to ₹1,13,480 per 10 grams, a gain of ₹1,590 from Tuesday’s close of ₹1,11,890. At the per-gram level, 24K gold is quoted at ₹15,131, 22K at ₹13,870, and 18K at ₹11,348, with Wednesday’s gains erasing Tuesday’s decline and nudging all three purities back above their multi-session support levels.
City-Wise Gold Prices — South, East and West
Chennai continues to command the highest gold rates among India’s ten major tracked cities by a meaningful margin, with 10 grams of 24-karat gold quoted at ₹1,53,280 on Wednesday — a premium of ₹1,970 over the national benchmark — while 22-karat and 18-karat gold are priced at ₹1,40,500 and ₹1,17,200 respectively per 10 grams, reflecting the city’s structurally elevated rates driven by higher jewellery demand and localised association markups. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune all align uniformly at ₹1,51,310 for 24-karat, ₹1,38,700 for 22-karat and ₹1,13,480 for 18-karat gold per 10 grams on Wednesday, maintaining the tightly harmonised pricing among bullion dealers in these six cities that has been a persistent feature across recent sessions — with no local premium recorded in any of these markets above the national benchmark.
City-Wise Gold Prices — North and West
Delhi quotes 10 grams of 24-karat gold at ₹1,51,440 on Wednesday, with 22-karat at ₹1,38,850 and 18-karat at ₹1,13,630 — a modest ₹130 premium over the national benchmark on the top purity, which is slightly wider than Tuesday’s ₹50 differential and reflects minor localised price adjustments by Delhi bullion dealers tracking the day’s stronger national move. Ahmedabad and Vadodara both quote 24-karat gold at ₹1,51,340 per 10 grams, 22-karat at ₹1,38,750 and 18-karat at ₹1,13,530, with both Gujarat cities maintaining a consistent ₹30 premium above the national benchmark, a marginal but stable pricing differential that has characterised these two markets in recent weeks and reflects localised jewellers’ association norms rather than any demand-side divergence.
