Mumbai, May 12: Indian gold rates rose sharply Tuesday after crashing by ₹1,000 each on Monday.

Prices of the yellow metal fell for three straight sessions leading up to Monday on the back of fears surrounding US-Iran tensions and a stronger dollar. Gold rates had slumped ₹550 to ₹1,52,130 during Monday’s trading session alone. On Tuesday gold rates across all purity bands rose in unison, rallying in both rural and urban India.
The ₹540 increase per gram in the price of 24K gold (Rs.15,213 to Rs.15,398), ₹170 increase per gram in 22K gold prices (Rs.13,955 to Rs.14,125) and ₹139 increase per gram in 18K gold prices (Rs.11,310 to Rs.11,449) all coincided to point towards broad-based buying of gold bars and coins on Tuesday.

Chennai once again saw the highest prices for gold among India’s leading cities on Tuesday with quotes of ₹1,56,330 for 24-karat gold, ₹1,43,300 for 22-karat gold and ₹1,19,500 for 18-karat gold on a 10 gram basis. Silver Rallies ₹15 on Tuesday After Rangebound Trade Last Two Sessions
India’s wholesale price for silver was last seen trading at ₹290 per gram on Tuesday morning — ₹15 higher than Monday’s closing price of ₹275 per gram. Silver for delivery quoted at ₹2,900 per 10 grams and ₹2,90,000 per kilogram.
India’s benchmark silver price had traded within a narrow range across two consecutive sessions on May 10 and May 11, coming under pressure on Monday amid higher supply. The metal’s recent recovery was propelled by fresh investor interest amid the geopolitical crisis between Iran and the US, with traders attributing today’s move higher to comments made by President Donald Trump late Monday night.
