Mumbai, April 22:Shares of Havells India ended higher on Wednesday, as strong earnings by the consumer electronics and power distribution equipment maker lifted sentiment even as concerns swirled around the consumer segment.

At market close, the stock was up 1.5% at Rs 1,348.70.
The company reported a robust profit beat for the March quarter asthe consolidated net profitrose nearly 40 per cent year-on-year to around ₹723 crore, largely due tothe core cables and wires business. But, the topline growth remained subdued as revenue rose just about 2 per cent, indicating uneven demand across the firm’ssegments.
The cables and wire segment remained the key driver for the quarter, continuing to report strong growth as demand and pricing dynamics boosted business. To be sure, this segment is increasingly turning out to be the backbone of the company as infrastructure spending and volume expansion steer growth for the unit.
In contrast, the Lloyd consumer business remained a drag. The segment reported losses during the quarter and has struggled with weak demand and cost pressures, particularly in the air-conditioning category. For the full year, Lloyd swung to a loss compared to a profit in the previous year, raising concerns about profitability and execution in the segment.
The consumer electrical space is currently navigating a mixed demand environment, where infrastructure-linked segments like cables are performing well, while discretionary consumption—especially in appliances—remains patchy.
In essence, Havells India’s Q4 performance presents a tale of two businesses: Strong execution in cables and wires driving profits, and continued pressure in Lloyd proving to be a drag.
In essence, Havells India’s Q4 performance delivered a strong profit print but cautious signals on demand, leading to a largely indifferent market reaction.
Going ahead, the stock’s trajectory will likely hinge on how demand shapes up in the peak summer season.
