Mumbai, May 20: Hindalco Industries led the Nifty 50 gainers chart on Wednesday, surging 3.50% as a sharp recovery in base metal prices aided by the geopolitical premium keeping commodity markets elevated drove aggressive buying in the aluminium and copper major, even as broader indices struggled to hold gains amid the unresolved US-Iran conflict. Reliance Industries, Bajaj Auto, Grasim Industries, Trent, and IndiGo also featured among the session’s top index gainers, with stocks rising between 1.04% and 2.84% as institutional money rotated into commodity-linked, consumption, and infrastructure names that had been under pressure through weeks of geopolitical anxiety over the Middle East conflict.

Hindalco: Top Gainer

Hindalco Industries (HINDALCO) topped the Nifty 50 gainers chart on Wednesday, surging 3.50% to an LTP of ₹1,085 from its previous close of ₹1,048.30 on the National Stock Exchange. The stock opened at ₹1,038.40, scaled a session high of ₹1,090, and held a low of ₹1,038.40 a powerful, sustained advance driven by strong buying from the opening bell. Over 1.19 crore shares worth approximately ₹1,290.98 crore changed hands, making it one of the most actively traded counters among the day’s gainers. The sharp move in Hindalco reflected the direct linkage between elevated crude and commodity prices a consequence of continued Strait of Hormuz disruptions and base metal realisations, with investors treating the stock as a natural hedge against a prolonged West Asia conflict that keeps global supply chains under stress.

Gainer 1

Reliance Industries

Reliance Industries (RELIANCE) was the second-biggest Nifty 50 gainer on Wednesday, rising 2.84% to an LTP of ₹1,360.30 from its previous close of ₹1,322.70. The stock opened at ₹1,318.70, touched an intraday high of ₹1,362.90, and held a session low of ₹1,312.60. Over 1.32 crore shares worth approximately ₹1,782.23 crore changed hands, making it by value the highest-traded counter among the day’s gainers. Reliance’s strong showing reflects the dual tailwind from elevated upstream energy prices which benefit its oil-to-chemicals segment and continued investor confidence in its retail and digital businesses as the domestic consumption recovery holds firm despite global macro headwinds.

Gainer 2

Bajaj Auto

Bajaj Auto (BAJAJ-AUTO) was the third-biggest gainer, advancing 2.52% to ₹10,462.50 from a previous close of ₹10,205. The stock opened at ₹10,158, touched a high of ₹10,483, and held a low of ₹10,078.50, with approximately 3.80 lakh shares worth ₹393.65 crore traded. The move in Bajaj Auto came on the back of improving two-wheeler demand sentiment and easing input cost concerns as a mild pullback in crude prices from their recent highs offered some relief on the margin front, with investors also reacting positively to the government’s proposed EV incentive programme for commercial vehicles that rekindled broader mobility sector optimism.

Gainer 3

Grasim Industries

Grasim Industries (GRASIM) gained 1.63% to ₹2,983 from its previous close of ₹2,935.20, opening at ₹2,908.20 and hitting a high of ₹2,988 with a session low of ₹2,880.60. Over 13.06 lakh shares worth ₹383.23 crore were traded as the diversified conglomerate attracted buying interest across its paints, cement and VSF businesses, with investors picking up the stock after a period of underperformance relative to Nifty 50 peers.

Gainer 4

Trent

Trent (TRENT) rose 1.07% to ₹4,113 from its previous close of ₹4,069.60, opening at ₹4,032.70 and scaling a high of ₹4,114 with a session low of ₹4,022. Over 5.01 lakh shares worth ₹204.28 crore were traded as the Tata Group retail major continued to attract domestic institutional support, buoyed by sustained urban consumption demand and its expanding Zudio store network which has consistently delivered above-expectation same-store sales growth.

Gainer 5

IndiGo

IndiGo (INDIGO) rounded out the top six Nifty 50 gainers, rising 1.04% to ₹4,274.20 from its previous close of ₹4,230.30. The stock opened at ₹4,178, hit a high of ₹4,284, and recorded a low of ₹4,178, with over 7.60 lakh shares worth ₹321.50 crore traded. IndiGo’s inclusion among the day’s top gainers reflected improving aviation demand sentiment, with lower jet fuel cost expectations on the back of easing crude prices and the prospect of a Middle East peace deal reopening key West Asia routes providing a meaningful operational tailwind for India’s dominant airline.
