Indian Markets Cautious But Positive

Indian markets remain on a cautious but positive note today, 14th May, 2025. At 1:30 p.m. Indian Standard Time (IST) Nifty 50 is up by 77.80 points. Sensex is down by 131.38 points. Indian markets had started the day in green but then shed some gains.
VIX index down
Nifty volatility index is down by more than 4% today, at 17.36 level. This indicates that markets are now more certain and less fearful. Nifty VIX had shot up to 22.36 level on 9th May, at the height of the recent armed conflict between India and Pakistan. It fell down to 17.48 on 12th May, after ceasefire was announced.

Top gainers & losers today
At Nifty 50, the top three gainers at this time are Tata Steel, BEL and Shriram Finance. Top three losers at this time are Tata Motors, Asian Paint and Cipla. Tata Steel’s stock price is up today because its net profit in the March quarter exceeded market expectations. Its consolidated net profit in the March quarter came down y-o-y by 51% to Rs 8, 470 crore.

All the broader market indices are in green at this time. Nifty Smallcap 100 index is the top gainer, up by 1.25%. Among sectoral indices, Nifty Realty index is the top gainer at this time, up by 1.57%. Nifty FMCG index is the top loser at this time, down by 0.27%.
Market breadth remains positive at this time. 2055 stocks are advancing; 740 stocks are declining. 92 stocks are unchanged in their prices. 52 stocks have touched their 52-week high today, by this time. 13 stocks have touched their 52-week low.
