Indian Markets Soared Today

Indian stock markets soared today. Indian equity indices ended the day strongly in green. Nifty 50 ended the day, up by 916.7 points. Sensex ended the day, up by 2975.3 points.
Ceasefire in Hostilities Cause the Markets to Shoot Up
Ceasefire in hostilities between India and Pakistan caused the markets to shoot up. The ceasefire was announced on Saturday, 10th May, 2025. After some initial hiccups the ceasefire has held over the past two nights. Last night is reported to be a completely peaceful night in the border state of Jammu & Kashmir.
US, China Reduce Tariffs for 90 Days
Indian markets also got a boost during the day after US and China announced that they will be reducing tariffs on each other’s goods for 90 days. America reduced import duties on many Chinese goods to 30%. China reduced import duties on many American goods to 10%.
Top Gainers & Losers
Top gainers at Nifty 50 today were Adani Enterprises, Infosys and Shriram Finance. Top Losers at Nifty 50 today were IndusInd Bank and Sun Pharma. IndusInd’s stock price fell down by 3.45% after Moody’s cut its credit rating to ba2. It also revised its outlook on the bank’s credit rating from stable to negative. This means that it expects further deterioration in the credit rating of the bank.
Sun Pharma’s stock price closed, down by 3.15% in the day. This, after US President Donald Trump announced that he will issue an executive order that will reduce drug prices in USA by 30%-80%.
All the broader market indices ended the day in green at NSE. Nifty Small Cap 100 index was the top gainer, ending the day up by 4.24%. All the sectoral indices ended the day in green. Nifty IT index was the top gainer. It ended the day, up by 6.70%. Nifty Metal index also gained 5.86%.

Market breadth was strongly positive today. 2,614 stocks rose in the day. 329 stocks declined. 67 stocks remained unchanged. 47 stocks touched new 52-week high today. 24 stocks touched new 52-week low.
