Mumbai, June 16 (09:15 IST): Indian equity benchmarks began the trading week with marginal gains on Monday morning. As of 09:15 AM IST, the Nifty 50 was trading at 24,732.35, up 13.75 points or 0.06%. The positive sentiment was primarily driven by strength in financial services and other select sectors, although these gains were partially offset by mild weakness observed in pharmaceutical and automotive stocks.
Adding a layer of caution to the market, the India VIX, often referred to as the “fear index,” experienced a sharp increase, indicating a rise in expected market volatility. The India VIX closed at 15.08 on Friday, June 13, 2025, representing a significant 7.56% rise from its previous close. This surge in volatility suggests heightened investor apprehension regarding potential price swings in the near term.

Outlook
The market is off to a quiet start with the Nifty trading flat, reflecting mixed cues. While financials and select mid-cap sectors are showing some strength, pharma and PSU banks are under slight pressure. A rise in the India VIX hints at growing investor caution, likely due to global uncertainties and upcoming domestic events. In the short term, markets may remain sideways with a focus on specific stocks. Traders are likely to remain vigilant regarding oil prices, global developments, and fund flows before taking fresh positions.
Stay tuned for intraday movements and volume-led breakouts as markets react to upcoming economic cues.
