New Delhi, September 23, 2025: The first day of Navratri, combined with the rollout of the new GST regime, turned into a landmark sales day for India’s leading carmakers, with Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India witnessing unprecedented demand.

Maruti Suzuki Sees Record Deliveries

Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, reported that its retail sales crossed 25,000 units by late evening on Monday and were expected to surpass 30,000 units by the end of the day.

Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki, said:

  • The company received around 80,000 customer enquiries on the day.
  • Bookings for small cars surged 50% after the price reduction.
  • Some model variants may run out of stock due to strong demand.
  • The day shaped up to be one of the best-ever in terms of sales for the automaker.

Hyundai Hits 5-Year High

Hyundai Motor India also saw exceptional momentum, with COO Tarun Garg announcing that the company logged around 11,000 dealer billings on Day 1 — the highest single-day performance in five years. Garg said the auspicious start of Navratri and the impact of GST 2.0 reforms have boosted consumer confidence, and the company anticipates sustained festive demand.

Industry-Wide Festive Cheer

Automotive dealers across the country reported heavy footfalls and robust enquiries, with customers even considering upgrades to higher categories due to reduced prices.

  • FADA President C. S. Vigneshwar highlighted that the GST cut will benefit the auto industry not just this festive season but for years to come.
  • Online platform CARS24 reported a 400% surge in car deliveries by 2 PM, led by demand in Delhi-NCR, followed by Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai. It also recorded over 5,000 car inspections in a single day, the highest in four years.
  • Honda Cars India announced revised pricing across its lineup, adding limited-period offers till December.

Broader Impact

SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon noted that the tax reform will strengthen self-reliance and domestic value addition, while bringing renewed momentum to the automotive sector. With GST-driven price cuts aligning with festive sentiment, the industry is gearing up for what could become one of the strongest sales seasons in recent years.
