Mumbai, May 4: Indian equity markets staged a strong recovery on Monday, with the BSE Sensex closing 466.23 points or 0.61 per cent higher at 77,379.73 and the Nifty 50 gaining 133.60 points or 0.56 per cent to settle at 24,131.15 — snapping a multi-session losing streak driven by surging crude oil prices and relentless FII selling.
The rebound was fuelled by U.S. President Donald Trump’s weekend announcement that the United States would guide commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which provided a partial easing of geopolitical anxiety and helped Brent crude ease to $107.53 a barrel.
Broad-based buying through the session ensured that the gains were well-distributed across sectors, with Adani Ports leading the Nifty 50 winners by a wide margin, followed by Eicher Motors, Jio Financial, Adani Enterprises and Reliance Industries. Here is a detailed look at the top Nifty 50 gainers from Monday’s session.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (ADANIPORTS) — +5.41%
Adani Ports was the session’s star performer among Nifty 50 constituents, closing at ₹1,747.00 — up ₹89.70 or 5.41 per cent from its previous close of ₹1,657.30. The stock opened the session at ₹1,702.00 and swung through a wide intraday range of ₹1,687.30 to ₹1,748.60, with the day’s high reached late in the session as broader market momentum stayed firm. The stock was supported by improving sentiment around port traffic normalisation linked to the Hormuz shipping initiative, as any resumption of cargo flows through the strait directly benefits port operators including APSEZ. Volumes were heavy at 71.71 lakh shares, underscoring strong institutional interest in the counter.

Eicher Motors (EICHERMOT) — +3.11%
Eicher Motors ended the session as the second-biggest Nifty 50 gainer, closing at ₹7,330.00 — up ₹221.00 or 3.11 per cent from Friday’s close of ₹7,109.00. The stock opened flat at ₹7,109.00 and climbed steadily through the session, hitting an intraday high of ₹7,348.50 before pulling back slightly into the close. The auto sector drew strong buying interest on Monday on the back of improved macro sentiment and expectations of softening fuel prices — a key demand driver for Eicher’s Royal Enfield motorcycle franchise — with the stock trading 6.84 lakh shares worth approximately ₹496.30 crore during the session.

Jio Financial Services (JIOFIN) — +2.98%
Jio Financial Services was the third-biggest gainer in the Nifty 50 on Monday, rising ₹7.33 or 2.98 per cent to close at ₹253.70 against a previous close of ₹246.37. The stock opened at ₹248.00 and traded in a range of ₹247.87 to ₹254.00 through the session, with volumes surging to 1.78 crore shares — making it one of the most actively traded Nifty 50 names of the day. Jio Financial has been drawing consistent institutional interest as its financial services businesses — spanning asset management, insurance broking, and lending — gain visibility and scale, and Monday’s 2.98 per cent move suggests continued accumulation at current levels.

Adani Enterprises (ADANIENT) — +2.68%
Adani Enterprises closed at ₹2,473.00 on Monday, gaining ₹64.60 or 2.68 per cent from its previous close of ₹2,408.40. The flagship Adani Group company opened at ₹2,390.40 and saw significant intraday volatility, swinging between a low of ₹2,375.00 and a high of ₹2,515.00 before settling near the middle of its range. The stock traded 60.40 lakh shares worth approximately ₹1,489.18 crore, reflecting strong two-way participation. The broad Adani group saw a powerful recovery on Monday, with the Hormuz-related tailwind for port-to-energy infrastructure conglomerates driving fresh buying interest across the group’s Nifty-listed entities.

Reliance Industries (RELIANCE) — +2.54%
Reliance Industries closed at ₹1,467.20, rising ₹36.40 or 2.54 per cent from its previous close of ₹1,430.80, making it the fifth-biggest gainer in the Nifty 50. The stock opened at ₹1,433.40 — its session low — and moved in a clean upward trajectory through the day, hitting a session high of ₹1,467.40 before closing near that level. The Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate was among the most-traded stocks on Monday with 2.40 crore shares exchanging hands worth approximately ₹3,494.77 crore. Reliance drew buying interest on multiple counts — the partial easing of crude oil prices benefiting its refinery and petrochemicals margins, and improved consumer sentiment supporting its retail and telecom businesses.
Other Notable Nifty 50 Gainers
Among the other notable gainers, Shriram Finance rose 2.52 per cent to close at ₹961.00 from a previous close of ₹937.35, trading in a range of ₹942.00–₹969.00. Hindustan Unilever advanced 2.49 per cent to ₹2,307.00 from ₹2,250.90, with the FMCG heavyweight drawing defensive buying on expectations of softening input cost inflation. L&T gained 2.14 per cent to ₹4,099.80, buoyed by order flow optimism in the infrastructure and capital goods sector. Max Healthcare rose 2.04 per cent to ₹1,013.30, while Grasim Industries advanced 1.99 per cent to ₹2,850.00, rounding out a diverse list of gainers that reflected the session’s broad-based, multi-sector recovery.
