Mumbai, July 17: The Nifty 50 ended Friday’s session with strong gains in technology and banking stocks, helping the benchmark finish on a firm note despite weakness in select pharmaceutical and metal counters. At the 4:00 PM IST close on July 17, 2026, Tech Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Jio Financial Services topped the gainers’ list, while Hindalco Industries, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Wipro emerged as the biggest laggards.

Investor sentiment remained upbeat through most of the session, supported by buying in heavyweight financial and IT stocks. At the same time, profit booking in metals and healthcare stocks prevented the rally from becoming broad-based.
