Bajaj Auto surged nearly 6% to lead the Nifty 50 gainers on July 22, while IndiGo ended as the biggest laggard after a broad-based decline across select heavyweight stocks.

Mumbai July, 22: Bajaj Auto led the Nifty 50 gainers on Tuesday after rallying nearly 6%, supported by strong buying interest in the auto sector. Consumer-facing names such as Nestle India and Tata Consumer Products also finished higher, while select defensive stocks lent support to the benchmark index.
On the downside, aviation, healthcare and information technology counters remained under pressure. IndiGo emerged as the worst-performing Nifty stock of the session, with selling also visible in Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Infosys and Axis Bank.

Buying Concentrated In Auto And Consumer Stocks
Bajaj Auto was the standout performer, climbing 5.92% after attracting strong buying interest through the session. Nestle India gained over 3%, while Tata Consumer Products extended its advance by 1.43%, indicating continued strength in FMCG names.
Eternal, Power Grid Corporation, ONGC and Hindustan Unilever also closed in positive territory, suggesting investors preferred selective defensive and consumption-oriented stocks amid mixed market sentiment.
Profit Booking Hits Heavyweights
IndiGo witnessed the sharpest decline among Nifty constituents, falling 3.58%. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Jio Financial Services also came under selling pressure, while Infosys and Axis Bank weakened as investors booked profits in large-cap technology and banking shares.
Other notable laggards included SBI, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and HDFC Life Insurance, reflecting broad-based weakness across financials, IT and select industrial stocks.

The Nifty 50 ended the session with stock-specific action dominating trade. Gains in Bajaj Auto, Nestle India and Tata Consumer Products helped offset weakness in aviation, IT and financial stocks, while profit booking in several heavyweight names kept overall market sentiment balanced through the close.
