Mumbai, Jul 18 The Nifty India Defence Index dropped 1.75% to 8,211.25, with 17 of 18 constituents in the red. Key stocks like HAL, BDL, and BEL weighed on the index, likely due to profit booking and rotation into other sectors amid weak broader sentiment.

Despite strong order pipelines and long-term defence spending momentum, recent gains have pushed valuations higher. The absence of fresh catalysts and a softer market backdrop may have triggered a pullback, as investors reassess near-term upside in the face of sector-specific overextension.
