Mumbai, May 7: HDFC Life Insurance was the top Nifty 50 gainer on Thursday, surging 3.57 per cent to close at ₹628.00 in a session where insurance, auto, diversified, and healthcare stocks led the index higher. Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra, Grasim Industries, NTPC, and Apollo Hospitals also featured among the six biggest index gainers, advancing between 1.09 per cent and 2.63 per cent as sentiment remained broadly supportive on the back of easing global cues and continued domestic buying interest.

HDFC Life — Up 3.57%

HDFC Life Insurance was the standout performer on the Nifty 50 on Thursday, rising 3.57 per cent to close at ₹628.00 from its previous close of ₹606.35 on the NSE. The stock opened at ₹611.00, scaled an intraday high of ₹629.30, and held close to its peak through the session, with a low of ₹608.85. A total of 224.16 lakh shares worth approximately ₹1,384.70 crore were traded during the day, making it one of the most actively traded counters by value in the session and reflecting strong institutional appetite for the private life insurer.

Bajaj Auto — Up 2.63%

Bajaj Auto was the second-biggest Nifty 50 gainer on Thursday, advancing 2.63 per cent to close at ₹10,590.00 from a previous close of ₹10,319.00. The two-wheeler major opened at ₹10,582.00, touched an intraday high of ₹10,740.00, and held above its opening level through most of the session with a low of ₹10,324.50. A total of 14.98 lakh shares worth approximately ₹1,585.72 crore changed hands during the day, reflecting robust volumes consistent with the stock’s high per-share price and sustained buying interest from institutional participants.

M&M — Up 1.98%

Mahindra & Mahindra gained 1.98 per cent on Thursday to close at ₹3,366.00, rising from its previous close of ₹3,300.80. The auto-to-farm equipment conglomerate opened at ₹3,311.90, hit an intraday high of ₹3,399.00, and maintained steady buying interest through the session with a low of ₹3,305.00. A total of 49.16 lakh shares worth approximately ₹1,656.66 crore were traded, making it the highest by value among the day’s top six gainers and underlining the strong investor conviction in the SUV-led growth narrative.

Grasim — Up 1.39%

Grasim Industries advanced 1.39 per cent to close at ₹2,955.20 on Thursday, rising from its previous close of ₹2,914.80. The Aditya Birla Group flagship opened at ₹2,902.30, touched an intraday high of ₹2,975.00, and held its gains through the session with a low of ₹2,900.00. A total of 6.03 lakh shares worth approximately ₹178.26 crore were traded during the day as buyers stepped in steadily, supporting the stock’s recovery from its intraday opening dip.

NTPC — Up 1.28%

NTPC rose 1.28 per cent on Thursday to close at ₹399.90 from its previous close of ₹394.85, edging back towards the psychologically significant ₹400 mark. The state-owned power major opened at ₹396.75, scaled an intraday high of ₹403.50, and traded with a session low of ₹393.15. A total of 97.00 lakh shares worth approximately ₹387.38 crore were traded, reflecting steady participation in the power sector counter amid continued policy and capacity expansion tailwinds.

Apollo Hospitals — Up 1.09%

Apollo Hospitals rounded out the top six Nifty 50 gainers on Thursday, rising 1.09 per cent to close at ₹7,845.00 from its previous close of ₹7,760.50. The healthcare major opened flat at ₹7,760.50, touched an intraday high of ₹7,855.00, and maintained its gains through the session with a low of ₹7,744.00. A total of 4.06 lakh shares worth approximately ₹317.05 crore were traded during the day, with the stock closing near its session high, indicating sustained demand for the country’s leading private hospital chain.
