Mumbai, June 3: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major metro cities and state capitals on Wednesday. While fuel rates in cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chandigarh were unchanged, small revisions were witnessed in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram. Hyderabad continued to record the highest petrol prices among major cities, while Thiruvananthapuram topped the diesel price chart.

To be sure, oil prices climbed nearly 1% on Wednesday, extending gains for a third straight session, as renewed hostilities in the Middle East heightened concerns over potential supply disruptions from one of the world’s most important energy-producing regions. Brent crude futures rose to around $97 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude traded near $95 a barrel.

The latest advance came after Iran launched ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, prompting retaliatory strikes by U.S. forces on Iran’s Qeshm Island. The escalation has further dimmed hopes of a breakthrough in negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Petrol Prices

Petrol prices across India’s major metro cities and state capitals remained largely unchanged on Wednesday, with New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Noida seeing no change in retail fuel rates, while small increases were witnessed in cities such as Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram. Chennai also saw a marginal rise of 3 paise per litre.

Among the key centres, Hyderabad continued to have the highest petrol price at Rs 115.69 per litre, followed by Thiruvananthapuram at Rs 115.41 and Kolkata at Rs 113.47. In contrast, Chandigarh remained the cheapest among the listed cities at Rs 101.51 per litre, with Noida and Lucknow also trading close to the Rs 102 mark. On the downside, Patna recorded the sharpest decline, with petrol prices falling 87 paise per litre, while Gurgaon, Kolkata and Bengaluru also saw modest reductions. The largely unchanged price landscape suggests that state-level tax adjustments and local levies, rather than any broad-based change in fuel pricing, drove the day’s movements.

Diesel Prices

Diesel prices across India’s major metro cities and state capitals remained broadly unchanged on Wednesday, with only marginal revisions seen in a handful of markets. Rates in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Noida, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Hyderabad were unchanged, while modest increases were recorded in Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram. On the other hand, Gurgaon and Patna witnessed slight declines, with the latter registering the sharpest fall of 84 paise per litre.

Among the cities tracked, Thiruvananthapuram continued to have the highest diesel price at Rs 104.22 per litre, closely followed by Hyderabad at Rs 103.82 and Bhubaneswar at Rs 100.92. Chandigarh remained the cheapest market, with diesel retailing at Rs 89.47 per litre.

The limited day-to-day fluctuations indicate that local tax adjustments and state-level pricing factors were behind the changes, while fuel prices across most parts of the country remained stable despite movements in global crude oil markets.
