President Trump says that he will not fire Federal Reserve Chairman

US equity markets again saw gains yesterday. US President Trump said that he would not fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. This, after reports emerged that in a meeting with Republican Congressmen he had said that he was going to fire Mr. Powell. US markets fell steeply after this report came. But they rose back in the day after President Trump issued the denial.
Nasdaq ended the day yesterday, 16th July, up by 52.69 points or 0.25%. Dow Jones ended the day, up by 231.49 points or 0.53%. S&P 500 ended the day, up by 19.94 points or 0.32%.
European markets ended the day in red
Euro Stoxx 50 ended the day yesterday, down by 56.10 points or 1.05%. Dax ended the day, down by 50.91 points or 0.21%. FTSE 100 ended the day, down by 11.17 points or 0.13%. Inflation in Britain rose to 3.6% in June.
Asian markets begin the day in red
Asian markets have started the day in red today, 17th July, 2025. At 8:55 a.m. IST, Nikkei 225 is down by 60.82 points or 0.15%. Hang Seng is down by 20.29 points or 0.083%. Shanghai composite is up by 1.35 points or 0.038%. Kospi is down by 9.05 points or 0.28%.
Indian equity markets are likely to remain cautious today. President Trump again said yesterday that a trade deal with India is very close to happening. Market movement will also be determined by the June quarter corporate results that are coming. Till now the results of companies that have come have been more on the disappointing side.
