Mumbai, April 21:Shares of Reliance Power rose more than fiveper cent on Tuesday, extending their sharp April rally, as investors continued to chase momentum in the Anil Ambani-led stock ahead of its upcoming quarterly results.

The stock has been one of the standout performers this month, surging nearly 30per cent in a month, drawing significant market attention amid heavy trading volumes and renewed speculative interest.

Momentum-Driven Rally Gathers Pace

Tuesday’s gains build on a strong upward trajectory seen over the past few sessions, with the stock witnessing sharp price moves and unusually high volumes.

Trading activity has surged well above recent averages, signalling heightened participation from both retail and momentum-driven investors. In mid-April alone, Reliance Power saw volumes running into several crore shares, underlining strong accumulation interest.

The rally has largely been stock-specific, with the company significantly outperforming the broader power sector: Reliance Power spurted nearly 30per cent in a month whereas Nifty Energy lagged far behind clocking just 10 per cent gains.

What’s Driving the Surge?

The recent spike appears to be driven by a combination of technical momentum and anticipation around the company’s Q4 earnings.

Market participants are positioning ahead of results, hoping for cues on operational performance and any improvement in the company’s financial profile. The trading window for insiders has already been shut ahead of the earnings announcement, in line with regulatory norms.

At the same time, the sharp rise in price suggests a strong element of speculative activity, with traders capitalising on the stock’s momentum rather than any immediate fundamental trigger.

High Risk, High Volatility

Despite the rally, analysts remain cautious on the stock’s near-term outlook. Reliance Power has historically faced financial and operational challenges, and the recent surge has not been accompanied by a clear shift in fundamentals, according to market watchers.

The stock’s sharp moves—often in double digits within short spans—also highlight its high-beta nature, making it prone to sudden reversals.

Outlook: Rally Meets Reality Check

Going ahead, the sustainability of the rally will depend heavily on earnings delivery and management commentary.

If results offer positive surprises or improved visibility, the momentum could sustain in the near term. However, any disappointment may trigger profit booking, given the steep run-up already seen this month.

For now, Reliance Power remains a trader’s stock—riding a wave of momentum, but walking a tightrope between opportunity and risk as the earnings trigger approaches.
