Mumbai, July 25, 2025 – The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in collaboration with key Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs) including NSE, BSE, CDSL, NSDL, MCX, MSEI, and NCDEX, alongside AMFI, has rolled out a major joint investor awareness campaign titled “SEBI vs SCAM”, aimed at combating growing financial frauds in India’s securities market.

Unified Media Drive Targets Rising Digital Investment Scams

A unified media campaign has been launched to combat the growing number of digital investment scams. The initiative aims to raise investor awareness by highlighting common fraud tactics and warning signs.

Key scam types addressed in the campaign include:

  • Fake Trading Apps: Fraudsters create apps that mimic legitimate brokers or exchanges to trick users into trading on fake platforms.
  • Unregistered Investment Advice: Advice is circulated by unregulated individuals or “finfluencers” on social media platforms.
  • Deepfake Impersonation: Scammers use AI-generated videos to impersonate trusted financial advisors and mislead investors.
  • Intermediary Impersonation: Fraudsters misuse SEBI-registered IDs or official logos to appear legitimate and gain investor trust.
  • Paid Trading Courses: Courses are marketed with false promises of guaranteed returns.
  • Dabba & Opinion Trading: Involves illegal off-market trades and unsolicited trading tips.

Focus Areas for Investor Protection

SEBI has highlighted four key pillars of investor empowerment:

  1. Red Flag Awareness – Recognizing scam signals early
  2. Verification Protocols – Checking SEBI registration & authenticity
  3. Trusted Redressal Mechanisms – Using SCORES platform and investor helplines
  4. Safe Digital Practices – Avoiding unknown links, validating credentials

Investors are encouraged to engage actively with the campaign via SEBI’s official social handles on X (formerly Twitter) @SEBI_India and through #SEBIvsSCAM updates from participating MIIs and AMFI.
