At Rs. 230 per gram, silver costs a small fraction of gold. A gram of 24-carat gold is Rs. 14,744 today, roughly 64 times the price of silver.
Buyers in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala will pay an additional Rs. 100 per 10 grams over the national rate, the same gap as on Wednesday.
These are rates for the metal alone. Silver jewellery will cost more once making charges and 3% GST are added. On a 10 gram purchase at Rs. 2,300, the GST alone comes to Rs. 69.
With Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali still ahead, coins, idols and utensils tend to pull in buyers, and the question is whether the rate finds support at Rs. 2,300 per 10 grams or slips further after a flat midweek.

On Wednesday the three rates were Rs. 14,826, Rs. 13,590 and Rs. 11,119 per gram, so the falls come to Rs. 82, Rs. 75 and Rs. 61, or about 0.55 per cent. For 10 grams of 24-carat gold, that means Rs. 1,47,440, down Rs. 820.

PN Gadgil Jewellers opened at ₹602.00 against a previous close of ₹598.80 and touched a high of ₹602.90 early on. It then slid to a low of ₹594.00 around 9:40 am, and a second push toward ₹601 near 10:10 am did not last. It is now at ₹597.05, down 0.29 per cent and below its VWAP of ₹597.89.
Senco Gold opened at ₹331.45 against a previous close of ₹331.15 and touched a high of ₹333.45 right at the start. After that it fell steadily to a low of ₹326.00 around 10:00 am, or 1.56 per cent below the previous close. It is trading at ₹326.90, down 1.28 per cent and below its VWAP of ₹328.51.
Vaibhav Global climbed above ₹206 around 9:35 am, then spent most of the morning between ₹203 and ₹205. It slipped to about ₹202.50 just before 11 am before recovering a little. It is trading at ₹203.54, down 0.15 per cent, on traded volume of 0.78 lakh shares worth ₹1.59 crore so far.
Against Wednesday’s morning levels, three of the four counters are lower. Senco Gold is down ₹6.40 or 1.92 per cent from ₹333.30, PN Gadgil Jewellers by ₹2.20 or 0.37 per cent from ₹599.25 and Silgo Retail by ₹0.33 or 0.47 per cent from ₹70.57. Vaibhav Global is up ₹1.14 or 0.56 per cent from ₹202.40.
Silver fell Rs. 50 per 10 grams on Thursday, but the Nifty 50 rose 1.42 per cent, so the stock moves do not look like a read-through from the metal. Three of the four jewellery counters lagged a rising market. The data used for this report does not show what drove the individual moves.
Order book data showed sellers ahead on three counters. PN Gadgil Jewellers had 67.47 per cent of total quantity on the sell side, with 85,946 shares against 41,447, followed by Senco Gold at 64.27 per cent, with 2,09,447 against 1,16,444, and Vaibhav Global at 58.89 per cent. Buyers led only on Silgo Retail, at 62.16 per cent.
