New Delhi, Oct 14: Silver rates did not budge on Wednesday. Goodreturns.in puts 10 grams of silver at Rs. 2,350 in most cities, which works out to Rs. 23,500 for 100 grams and Rs. 2,35,000 for a kilogram. Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala remain the pricier markets at Rs. 2,450 per 10 grams, or Rs. 24,500 for 100 grams and Rs. 2,45,000 per kg.
None of the ten cities tracked saw a change. The last move came on Tuesday, when rates dropped Rs. 50 per 10 grams in seven cities. A 10-gram bar still costs the Rs. 2,350 it did yesterday, which is Rs. 50 below Monday’s Rs. 2,400 and roughly where it stood on Friday.
The national rate is steady at Rs. 235 per gram as well, so a kilogram still costs Rs. 2,35,000.

At Rs. 235 per gram, silver costs a small fraction of gold. A gram of 24-carat gold is Rs. 14,826 today, roughly 63 times the price of silver.
Buyers in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala will pay an additional Rs. 100 per 10 grams over the national rate, the same gap as on Tuesday.
These are rates for the metal alone. Silver jewellery will cost more once making charges and 3% GST are added. On a 10 gram purchase at Rs. 2,350, the GST alone comes to Rs. 70.50.
With Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali still ahead, coins, idols and utensils tend to pull in buyers, and the question is whether the rate keeps holding at Rs. 2,350 per 10 grams or starts moving again after a flat day.
Gold Rates
Gold got cheaper again on Wednesday. According to Goodreturns.in, 24-carat gold (99.9 per cent purity) costs Rs. 14,826 per gram in most cities, 22-carat gold (91.6 per cent purity) is at Rs. 13,590 and 18-carat gold is at Rs. 11,119.
On Tuesday the three rates were Rs. 14,929, Rs. 13,685 and Rs. 11,197 per gram, so the falls come to Rs. 103, Rs. 95 and Rs. 78, or about 0.69 to 0.70 per cent. For 10 grams of 24-carat gold, that means Rs. 1,48,260, down Rs. 1,030.

Silver did not move on Wednesday, so there is no metal-led story in these stock moves. The two gainers and two losers split evenly while the Nifty 50 was close to flat. The data used for this report does not show what drove the individual moves.
Order book data was mixed. Sellers had the upper hand on PN Gadgil Jewellers at 68.62 per cent of total quantity, with 82,378 shares against 37,664, and on Senco Gold at 67.64 per cent, with 2,42,054 against 1,15,808, even though PN Gadgil is in the green. Buyers led on Silgo Retail at 62.97 per cent and Vaibhav Global at 54.29 per cent.
