New Delhi, Oct 9: Silver prices stood at Rs. 235 per gram (Rs. 2,35,000 per kg) at the national level at the time of print on Friday. According to Goodreturns.in, the price is Rs. 2,350 for 10 grams and Rs. 23,500 for 100 grams. Prices in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala continue to be higher at Rs. 2,450 per 10 grams, or Rs. 24,500 for 100 grams and Rs. 2,45,000 per kg.

Silver prices have declined marginally since yesterday, October 8. Rates have fallen by Re. 1 per 10 grams in Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, from Rs. 2,350 to Rs. 2,349 per 10 grams. This translates into a decline of Rs. 100 per kg, or approximately 0.04 per cent.

No change was recorded in prices in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala. The national silver price remains at Rs. 235 per gram. With prices having remained largely unchanged since Monday, the marginal decline is unlikely to make a significant difference to those considering buying silver.

Silver remains the cheaper way into precious metals. At ₹235 per gram, it costs a fraction of 24-carat gold at ₹15,071 per gram, which makes gold about 64 times more expensive than silver.

With the national rate flat since Monday and only a ₹1 dip in five cities, there is little in the price action to guide a buying decision. Buyers in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala will pay an additional ₹10 per gram over the national rate. For 500 grams, that is ₹1,22,500 against ₹1,17,500.

The above silver prices are for the metal only. If you are looking to purchase silver jewellery, you will have to pay more, because it attracts making charges and 3% GST. On a 1 kg purchase at ₹2,35,000, GST alone comes to ₹7,050. These prices are for reference only, so check with your local jeweller or dealer before buying.

With the festive season approaching and Navratri, Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali still to come, silver coins, idols and utensils are likely to draw buyers, and many will be watching whether the rate holds at ₹2,35,000 per kilogram or moves again.

Gold Rates

Gold prices have increased on Friday. According to Goodreturns.in, 24-carat gold (99.9 per cent purity) costs ₹15,071 per gram in most cities. 22-carat gold (91.6 per cent purity) costs ₹13,815 per gram, while 18-carat gold is priced at ₹11,303 per gram.

Yesterday, prices stood at ₹14,957, ₹13,710 and ₹11,218 per gram for 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold, respectively. This represents an increase of ₹114, ₹105 and ₹85, respectively, translating into gains of approximately 0.76-0.77 per cent.

Jewellery Stocks Today

Jewellery stocks were mixed in early trade on Friday. Two of the four counters were in positive territory even as the Nifty 50 rose to 22,495.00 around 10:32 am, up 1.18 per cent. Vaibhav Global (VAIBHAVGBL) led the gains at 2.08 per cent, followed by PN Gadgil Jewellers (PNGJL) at 0.04 per cent. Senco Gold (SENCO), which led Thursday’s rally, was the weakest, down 2.11 per cent, while Silgo Retail (SILGO) edged down 0.01 per cent.

Vaibhav Global (VAIBHAVGBL) opened at ₹199.40 against the previous close of ₹199.55, and that turned out to be the low of the day. It then rose sharply within the first few minutes, pulled back to near the ₹200 mark and recovered to touch a high of ₹206.00. It is trading at ₹203.70, up 2.08 per cent and just above its volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of ₹203.62.

Senco Gold (SENCO) was trading at ₹330.00, down ₹7.10 or 2.11 per cent. On Thursday morning the stock had been at ₹343.35, up 7.10 per cent, so it is now ₹13.35 or 3.89 per cent below that level.

PN Gadgil Jewellers (PNGJL) opened at ₹609.90 against a previous close of ₹586.30, a gap-up of about 4 per cent, and touched a high of ₹614.90. It then gave up the whole gap and fell to a low of ₹578.30. It was trading at ₹586.55, up 0.04 per cent and below its VWAP of ₹593.33.

Silgo Retail opened at ₹69.75, in line with its previous close, touched a high of ₹70.99 and then slid to a low of ₹69.44. It was trading at ₹69.74, down 0.01 per cent and below its VWAP of ₹69.96.

Compared with Thursday’s morning levels, three of the four counters are lower. Senco Gold is down ₹13.35 or 3.89 per cent from ₹343.35, Vaibhav Global by ₹4.32 or 2.08 per cent from ₹208.02 and PN Gadgil Jewellers by ₹12.20 or 2.04 per cent from ₹598.75. Silgo Retail is up ₹0.22 or 0.32 per cent from ₹69.52.

Silver barely moved on Friday, so the stock moves do not look like a read-through from the metal. The Nifty 50 rose 1.18 per cent, yet only two of the four jewellery counters were higher, and Senco Gold gave back part of Thursday’s surge. The data used for this report does not show what triggered the moves. Whether bullion-linked stocks begin to track silver or the wider market through the afternoon session will be the thing to watch.

Order book data showed buyers ahead only on PN Gadgil Jewellers, with 66.75 per cent of total quantity on the buy side, or 3,74,511 shares against 1,86,559 on the sell side. Vaibhav Global had 59.40 per cent of total quantity on the sell side, with 60,489 shares against 41,347 on the buy side, and Silgo Retail was almost evenly split, with 50.39 per cent on the sell side, or 7,648 shares against 7,530.
