New Delhi, Sept 10: Silver rates today moved higher in India on Thursday, breaking the flat run that had held through the first three sessions of the week. The white metal traded at ₹255 per gram, ₹2,550 per 10 grams and ₹2,55,000 per kilogram nationwide, up ₹50 per 10 grams, or roughly 2%, from the level held by most cities through Wednesday.

Thursday’s move also reset the pricing map. Through Wednesday, the ten major cities tracked here sat in two tiers: seven namely, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, priced silver at ₹2,500 per 10 grams, while Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala held a modest premium of ₹2,550. On Thursday, all ten converged at ₹2,550, meaning buyers in the previously cheaper cities now pay silver at parity with those that had commanded the premium all week.

Silver price in India largely follows international trends since demand and supply here is too thin to sway prices by itself. Demand from industry and investment buyers overseas, coupled with mining supply, determines global silver prices, while currency moves impact the rupee-cost of those imports. Global spot silver firmed through Wednesday night and into Thursday’s opening trade, snapping the sideways drift that had boxed in prices through the first half of the week.

If the rupee weakens against the dollar and international silver prices hold steady or rise, it becomes costlier for domestic buyers, and Thursday’s move had both factors working in the same direction, with overseas desks showing renewed buying interest after Monday through Wednesday’s muted activity.

Analysts said Thursday’s rise reflects industrial and investment demand reasserting itself after a lull. One Delhi-based trader noted that with the flat stretch broken, participants would now watch whether the gain extends into Friday or proves a one-session pop. “It tells you the standoff between buyers and sellers is over, at least for now,” the dealer said.

Retail buyers have continued to use silver purchases as an entry point into precious metals, and its lower price per gram compared with gold makes it a more accessible buy. Dealers pointed to steady demand from industrial users in electronics and solar panels as support for prices even during the flat stretch, and cited that same demand as a factor behind Thursday’s advance.

India fetches daily nationwide silver rates from designated dealer forums in each city, compiled and published here each morning. These rates are subject to change by the time you arrive at a jewellery or bullion dealer later in the day, so confirm the price your jeweller will offer before making a purchase.

City-Wise Silver Rates: Wednesday vs Thursday

The table below sets Wednesday’s (Sept 9) silver rates for 10 major Indian cities against Thursday’s (Sept 10) rates, quoted per 10 grams. Seven cities that had been pricing silver at a discount through the week rose by ₹50 to match the premium level, while the three cities that were already at the higher rate held steady.

On Thursday, silver rates stand at ₹2,55,000 per kilogram in all ten cities tracked here, up from a split of ₹2,50,000 and ₹2,55,000 through Wednesday. Silver jewellery and ornaments typically cost more than the per-gram rates shown here due to making charges, plus a 3% GST levied on metallic silver.

Thursday’s uniform pricing is unusual, dealers said, since regional premiums tied to local demand and margins typically persist even when the metal moves. “It’s not common to see every city land on exactly the same number,” said a dealer from Mumbai. “Whether that holds through Friday is something we’ll be watching.”

Historically, silver always trades for less than gold on a per gram basis. Investors looking to gain silver exposure without buying the physical metal could check out Silver ETFs in India: https://hdfcsky.com/etf/silver-etf

Silver articles and jewellery typically contain other metals like copper, which let retailers mark up prices at the jewellery store. That’s why investors buying metallic silver should focus on bars and coins instead of jewellery. Pure silver is 999 fine.

Jewellery Stocks Today

Shares of jewellery companies with a meaningful presence in silverware and studded silver jewellery were mostly lower in late-morning trade on Thursday, with three of the four stocks in the red even as the underlying metal rallied. Senco Gold led the decliners this time, down 0.67%, followed by PN Gadgil Jewellers, off 0.50%, and Silgo Retail, down a smaller 0.48%. Vaibhav Global was again the lone gainer, adding 1.74% to extend its advance from Wednesday. Trading was still underway at the time of writing.

Senco Gold’s intraday chart showed the stock opening just below its previous close, rallying to a high of ₹358.45 in the first half-hour, then sliding steadily to a low of ₹353.05 near the current price. PN Gadgil Jewellers followed a similar arc, opening higher and climbing to ₹615.35 before reversing sharply after mid-morning to a low near ₹607, recovering only modestly since. Silgo Retail again traded in an unusually narrow band, its price barely moving from the opening level. Vaibhav Global, by contrast, dipped briefly to an early low of ₹213.00 before grinding steadily higher to a high of ₹221.79, with buyers and sellers running close to evenly matched even as the stock held on to most of its gains.

Market watchers said Thursday’s mostly weaker session among these jewellery counters, even as the underlying metal broke out of its flat range, points to stock-specific factors more than any shift in silver’s own outlook. Dealers expect silver’s near-term path to stay tied to global cues, with Thursday’s break from its long flat stretch likely to keep drawing attention into Friday’s session.
