Gurugram, October 10, 2025Shares of SpiceJet Ltd (BSE: 500285) surged more than 6% on Friday morning after the airline announced the induction of three new aircraft. This marked the beginning of an aggressive fleet expansion ahead of the winter travel season. The expansion is part of a broader plan to add 20 more aircraft between October and November 2025 and the restoration of four previously grounded planes by mid-December.

Fleet Expansion and Operational Plans

The airline added one Airbus A340 and two Boeing 737 aircraft, under a damp lease arrangement. With the new additions, SpiceJet’s fleet is set to more than double, and available seat-kilometers (ASKM) are expected to triple by December 2025, enabling the carrier to increase connectivity across domestic and regional routes.

Management Commentary

Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, stated that the expansion “marks the start of a large-scale enhancement of SpiceJet’s operations this winter. Each new induction strengthens operational capabilities, opens new routes, and improves passenger convenience.” He added that the move reflects strong demand and positions the airline to capture a larger market share.

Market Reaction

As of 12:16 PM IST on October 10, the stock was trading at ₹34.75, up ₹1.66 or 5.02%, with a market capitalization of ₹4,499.78 crore. Investor sentiment has been buoyed by the airline’s growth prospects ahead of the peak travel season.
