Mumbai, July 17 (10:15 AM IST): Tilaknagar Industries Ltd (NSE: TI | BSE: 507205) stock gained 2.81% in early trade on Thursday. At 11 a.m. IST its stock is up by 2.38% at Rs 402.90.

In another development, The Bombay High Court has upheld its exclusive rights over the iconic Mansion House and Savoy Club trademarks.

Trademark Dispute Ruling in Favour of Tilaknagar

The Division Bench of the Bombay High Court, in a comprehensive order dated 16 July 2025, dismissed an appeal filed by UTO Nederland B.V. and Herman Jansen B.V. This ruling effectively upheld the Single Bench’s 2011 decision that recognised Tilaknagar Industries’ (TI) proprietary claim over the ‘Mansion House’ and ‘Savoy Club’ marks. The court’s decision grants TI exclusive brand usage and legally restricts UTO and Allied Blenders and Distillers (ABD) from launching similarly branded products in India until the final disposal of the ongoing lawsuit.

Furthermore, the High Court also set aside an earlier order from 7 February 2025, which had granted interim permission to ABD to use the ‘Mansion House’ label in West Bengal. This latest ruling explicitly blocks any such market entry attempts by competitors while the trial is pending. In its regulatory filing, the company stated, “These orders have upheld the ownership and proprietary rights of TI… while restraining UTO & ABD from launching products under the impugned marks in India.”

What Does The Victory Mean?

The Bombay High Court’s ruling reinforces Tilaknagar Industries’ exclusive ownership of the ‘Mansion House’ and ‘Savoy Club’ trademarks, protecting its legacy brands from imitation. It blocks rivals UTO and ABD from using similar branding, preserving TI’s market share and brand value. The decision boosts investor confidence by removing legal overhang. It may also strengthen TI’s competitive edge in the premium spirits segment. The ruling supports brand integrity until the final trial outcome.

Next Steps

Following the trademark win, Tilaknagar Industries will continue pursuing the main trial for a final verdict on brand rights. The company may now act to stop competitors from using similar trademarks across all states, including West Bengal. This verdict strengthens TI’s position to expand its Mansion House and Savoy Club brands. It is also expected to reassure investors and clear the path for stronger brand-building. Legal teams will ensure full enforcement of the ruling.
