Mumbai, September 2: Shares of IFCI, Vodafone Idea, PC Jeweller and Alok Industries featured among the most actively traded stocks on the NSE by volume on Wednesday. IFCI led the gainers with a nearly 10% jump amid expectations of the proposed NSE IPO, while Vodafone Idea advanced after unveiling a refreshed brand identity. PC Jeweller and Alok Industries, meanwhile, extended their declines, with Alok Industries hitting a fresh 52-week low.
Vodafone Idea Limited (up 2.84%)
Vodafone Idea shares rose after the telecom operator unveiled a refreshed brand identity and brought on board Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan for its upcoming campaign. The new identity, being rolled out across consumer touchpoints, digital platforms and retail outlets from September 1, is part of Vi’s broader brand transformation aimed at signalling a new phase for the company.
IFCI Limited (up 9.67%)
IFCI shares surged on Wednesday amid market buzz that the National Stock Exchange could launch its much-awaited IPO later this month. IFCI is seen as an indirect beneficiary of the proposed listing through its controlling stake in Stock Holding Corporation of India, which owns a 4.4% stake in NSE. The stock has attracted strong buying interest as investors anticipate potential value unlocking from the exchange’s IPO.
PC Jeweller Limited (down 2.23%)
PC Jeweller shares extended their decline on Wednesday, falling further as jewellery stocks remained under pressure after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged consumers to avoid non-essential gold purchases on Monday. The appeal, aimed at conserving foreign exchange amid broader economic pressures, has weighed on share sentiment.
Alok Industries Limited (down 5.20%)
Alok Industries shares extended their losing streak on Wednesday, falling further with the RIL-backed textile company hitting a fresh 52-week low. The stock has now declined sharply over the past week, down 35%. Exchanges have also sought clarification from the company over a significant increase in trading volumes.
The reason behind the steep selloff remains unclear, with the stock’s decline appearing to be largely company-specific rather than driven by broader market weakness. Alok Industries has already lost 38% in a month and continues to slide into September.
