US inflation increases in June, as impact of higher tariffs starts getting reflected

Both Dow Jones and S&P 500 ended the day in red, yesterday, 15th July, 2025. This, after inflation rate in US increased in June. Consumer price inflation in June increased to 2.7%, from 2.4% in May. Core inflation (which excludes food and energy prices) stood at 2.9%. The impact of higher import tariffs has started showing on prices.

Nasdaq ended the day, up by 37.47 points or 0.18%. This, because Nvidia’s stock gained 4% yesterday. This, after US President Donald Trump allowed Nvidia to export chips to China. Dow Jones ended the day, down by 436.36 points or 0.98%. S&P 500 ended the day, down by 24.80 points or 0.40%.

European markets closed in red yesterday

Euro Stoxx 50 ended the day yesterday, down by 16.68 points or 0.31%. Dax ended the day, down by 100.35 points or 0.42%. FTSE 100 ended the day, down by 59.74 points or 0.66%.

US, Indonesia agree to bilateral trade deal

Asian markets have started the day on a mixed note today. At 8:50 a.m. 16th July, 2025, Nikkei 225 is down by 35.62 points or 0.090%. Hang Seng is up by 121.28 points or 0.49%. Shanghai composite index is down by 4.45 points or 0.13%. Kospi index is down by 21.65 points or 0.67%.

US has reached a bilateral trade deal with Indonesia. Indonesia’s exports to USA will face a tariff of 19% under the terms of the deal. America’s exports to Indonesia will not face any tariff.

Indian equity markets may continue some of the positive momentum of yesterday, today. Markets may also get weighed down by short term profit booking. Prime Minister’s Office has given its go-ahead for reforming the GST regime with the intent of making it simpler.
