US, Japan reach bilateral trade deal

US equity markets continued with their strong performance yesterday, 22^nd July. Profit booking was seen in some technology stocks. Nasdaq ended the day, down by 81.49 points or 0.39%. S&P 500 ended the day, up by 4.02 points or 0.064%. Dow Jones gained 179.37 points or 0.40%. This, due to good June quarter results posted by some companies. Meanwhile, AstraZeneca said that it plans to invest $50 billion in USA over the next 5 years to set up manufacturing facilities in the country. This, to escape higher import tariffs on pharmaceuticals that President Trump has said he will impose.

European markets saw some decline yesterday.

European markets saw some decline yesterday. Euro Stoxx 50 ended the day, down by 52.50 points or 0.98%. Dax too fell yesterday. It closed the day, down by 265.90 points or 1.09%. FTSE 100 closed the day, up by 10.82 points or 0.12%.

US- Japan trade deal

Nikkei 225 is up through the roof, today, 23^rd July, 2025. At 8:55 a.m. IST, it is up by 1,278 points or 3.21%. This, after US President Trump announced that US has struck a massive trade deal with Japan. As part of this trade deal, he said, US will impose 15% tariffs on Japanese goods. Japan will also invest $550 billion in USA, as part of the deal.

Hang Seng is up by 238.03 points or 0.95% at this time. Shanghai composite is up by 25.36 points or 0.71%. Kospi is down by 4.32 points or 0.14%.

Indian equity markets may start the day today on a negative note. India’s inability to strike a trade deal with USA till now may weight on market sentiments.
