US markets continued their upward gains yesterday, 10th July, 2025. Nasdaq ended the day, up by 19.33 points or 0.094%. Dow Jones ended the day, up by 192.34 points or 0.43%. S&P 500 ended the day, up by 17.20 points or 0.27%.

President Trump wrote to Canadian government that he will impose 35% tariffs on goods from Canada from August 1st, if some bilateral trade deal is not reached. US markets seem to be factoring in the probability that a resolution will ultimately be reached at much lower tariff rates with all the major trading partners of USA. They are also relying on the inherent resilience of the US economy, in the face of higher tariffs. That may explain their current exuberance.

FTSE 100 jumps on gains in mining stocks

European markets saw some profit booking yesterday after the gains of the previous two days. Euro Stoxx 50 ended the day, down by 7.38 points or 0.14%. Dax ended the day, down by 92.75 points or 0.38%. But FTSE 100 shot up by 108.64 points or 1.23%. This, on the back of gains in mining stocks. With China showing some signs of economic recovery, mining stocks gained. China is a big consumer of minerals and commodities.

Chinese markets begin the day in green

Chinese stock markets have started the day strongly in green today. Nikkei 225 is down by 52.52 points or 0.13%, at 8:50 a.m. 11th July, 2025. Hang Seng is up by 336.72 points or 1.40%. Shanghai composite is up by 26.42 points or 0.75%. South Korea’s Kospi is down by 0.68 points or 0.021%.

Indian markets are likely to continue in their current cautious mood today too. IT stocks may see some movement today after TCS’ results after market closing, yesterday. Its revenue in constant currency terms went down year-on-year by 3.1% in the June quarter.
