Mumbai, April 23: Waa Solar Limited has signed seven power purchase agreements with Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited.

As disclosed in a regulatory filing, the agreements cover a combined solar capacity of 48.15 MW under the PM-KUSUM C scheme. These are long-duration contracts, running for 25 years from the scheduled commissioning date.

The company now has a committed buyer for the power it plans to generate from these projects. That kind of certainty is important in the renewable sector, where revenues depend heavily on long-term offtake arrangements.

Stock Market Snapshot

Waa Solar share price moved sharply higher on Thursday as the market absorbed the development.

The stock traded at ₹72.12, up 9.65% as of 15:09 IST, compared with the previous close of ₹65.77. The rise held through the latter part of the session, indicating that the buying interest was sustained rather than fleeting.

What The Agreements Mean In Practice

The PPAs have been signed with MPPMCL, the state-run entity responsible for electricity procurement in Madhya Pradesh.

Under the terms, Waa Solar will supply power at tariffs ranging from ₹2.73 to ₹2.75 per unit over the life of the contract. While these tariffs are on the lower side, the trade-off is stability. Revenues become predictable, and projects become easier to finance and execute.

The company has also clarified that the transaction is not related-party in nature, and promoters have no stake in the awarding entity.

Strategic Importance In The Current Energy Landscape

These agreements tie into a broader policy push under the PM-KUSUM scheme, which focuses on decentralised solar generation, especially at the feeder level.

For Waa Solar, this creates a pathway to expand capacity while locking in demand upfront. It also reduces exposure to fluctuations in merchant power prices, which can be volatile.

Company Background

Waa Solar Limited operates in the solar power segment, focusing on developing and running utility-scale and scheme-based projects.

Its approach has largely centred on securing long-term PPAs to underpin project economics, ensuring that capacity additions translate into steady income streams over time.

Conclusion

The execution of these PPAs marks a steady, rather than dramatic, step forward for Waa Solar.

The market reaction has been strong, but the real outcome will depend on execution.
