Mumbai | June 3, 2025 – Shares of Yes Bank Ltd (NSE: YESBANK) plunged 8.25% to ₹21.36 in early Tuesday trade following media reports speculating that Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) was planning to acquire a controlling stake in the private sector lender. The bank has now issued an official clarification, denying any such discussions.

Company Clarification on SMBC Report

In response to the news report published on June 2, 2025, titled “SMBC to seek RBI Yes for licence to operate wholly owned arm – Move Seen As Part of A Plan To Acquire Controlling Stake in Yes Bank”, Yes Bank has categorically denied the claims.

“The Bank is not privy to discussions in relation to matters stated in the article,” stated Company Secretary Sanjay Abhyankar.

“Further, references to the Bank having ‘road map’ discussions with the RBI are factually incorrect.”

Yes Bank in filing under Regulation 30(11)

The bank affirmed that it will continue to make disclosures in line with SEBI Listing Regulations as and when required.
