Mumbai, April 30: Several Nifty 50 stocks closed in the red on Thursday, with auto, consumer, and metals names bearing the brunt of selling as elevated crude oil prices, geopolitical uncertainty, and a cautious broader market weighed on sentiment. Tata Motors and Eternal led the losses, followed by Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever, and Tata Steel — a mix of cyclical and consumption-linked names that bore the most pressure in a session marked by selective selling. The following are some of the biggest decliners on Thursday:

Tata Motors (TMPV)

Tata Motors was Thursday’s joint biggest loser, closing at ₹342.40 — down 2.92% from its previous close of ₹352.70, a fall of ₹10.30 per share. The stock opened at ₹352.00, matching the session high, before sellers pushed it to a session low of ₹337.50, reflecting consistent downward pressure through the day. With 1.27 crore shares traded worth ₹433 crore, the session saw meaningful participation on the sell side, with the stock closing well above the day’s low but unable to recover the opening levels. Elevated crude prices feeding into rising input costs and demand concerns continue to weigh on auto names.

Eternal

Eternal shared the day’s top-loser position, also falling 2.92% to close at ₹246.60 from its previous close of ₹254.03 — a decline of ₹7.43 per share. The stock opened at ₹249.00, briefly touched a high of ₹251.69, before sliding to a session low of ₹242.65. At 7.27 crore shares worth ₹1,787 crore, Eternal was Thursday’s highest-value trade among the losers — a significant volume session that underlines active institutional selling in the consumer internet space.

Hindalco

Hindalco fell 2.83%, closing at ₹1,037.00 from a previous close of ₹1,067.20 — a drop of ₹30.20. The metals major opened at ₹1,058.50, touched a high of ₹1,063.85 early in trade before declining sharply to a session low of ₹1,030.40. With 43.93 lakh shares worth ₹459 crore traded, the selling in Hindalco reflects broader pressure on the metals complex as global demand concerns and a softening LME weighed on sentiment.

Hindustan Unilever

Hindustan Unilever closed at ₹2,254.00, down 2.61% from its previous close of ₹2,314.40 — a fall of ₹60.40. The FMCG major had an unusually wide intraday range, opening at ₹2,312.00, spiking briefly to a high of ₹2,368.80, before a sharp reversal drove the stock to a session low of ₹2,211.60. The ₹157 intraday range on a typically stable FMCG stock is notable. Volumes of 44.35 lakh shares worth ₹1,011 crore were substantial, pointing to active institutional rebalancing.

Tata Steel

Tata Steel shed 2.08%, closing at ₹211.40 from its previous close of ₹215.88. The stock opened at ₹215.78, matched the session high exactly, and fell to a low of ₹210.00 — a ₹5.78 intraday decline from the open. With 2.49 crore shares worth ₹526 crore traded, the selling in Tata Steel reflects ongoing concerns about global steel demand and margin pressure in the metals sector.

UltraTech Cement

UltraTech Cement fell 1.99%, closing at ₹11,597.00 against a previous close of ₹11,833.00 — a fall of ₹236. The stock opened at its session high of ₹11,777.00 and declined steadily to a low of ₹11,484.00 through the session. With 7.20 lakh shares worth ₹832 crore traded, the decline reflects rate-sensitive caution after the Federal Reserve’s divided hold decision overnight reinforced concerns about a prolonged high-rate environment.

Shriram Finance

Shriram Finance closed at ₹938.50, falling 1.92% from its previous close of ₹956.85. The NBFC opened at ₹945.20, touched a high of ₹950.00 briefly, and slid to a session low of ₹921.00 before recovering partially into the close. At 59.91 lakh shares worth ₹559 crore, volumes were elevated, reflecting active selling in the financial services space.

Trent

Trent rounded out the notable decliners, closing at ₹4,148.00 — down 1.90% from its previous close of ₹4,228.30. The Tata Group retailer opened at ₹4,215.10, traded to a high of ₹4,218.40, and then slid to a session low of ₹4,124.00. With 5.67 lakh shares worth ₹236 crore traded, the decline points to continued profit-booking in discretionary retail names amid a cautious consumer sentiment backdrop.
