IRB Infrastructure doubled its equity base through a 1:1 bonus issue, but shares slipped 2.73% as the market adjusted to dilution.

Mumbai, April 2: IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd has gone ahead with its 1:1 bonus issue, effectively doubling the number of shares in circulation.
Under the allotment, shareholders received one additional share for every share held as of April 1, 2026. In total, 603.90 crore new equity shares of ₹1 each have been issued.
With this, the company’s paid-up equity capital now stands at ₹1,207.80 crore. In simple terms, the share count has doubled.
The new shares carry the same rights as existing ones. No change in voting power per share class.
Stock Market Snapshot
The market reaction was muted, and slightly negative. As of 11:02 IST on April 2, 2026, IRB Infrastructure Developers share price was at ₹21.02, down ₹0.59 or 2.73% from the previous close of ₹21.61, according to exchange data.
When bonus shares are issued, the price adjusts to reflect the higher number of shares. The total value of the company does not change overnight, but it gets divided across more units.
More Shares, Same Business
A bonus issue does not create value by itself. It does not improve earnings, cash flows or operations. It simply restructures the capital base. What it can do is improve liquidity. Lower per-share price sometimes makes the stock more accessible and easier to trade.
The Bigger Picture Still Lies In Execution
IRB Infrastructure operates in the roads and highways space, with a portfolio built around tolling and infrastructure development.
Its performance depends on traffic growth, project execution and concession revenues. Those factors will continue to determine how the stock behaves over time.
The bonus issue is a structural reset. The business story stays the same.
