Mumbai, July 20: The Nifty 50 kicked off the new trading week on a mixed note as investors shifted between sectors in response to earnings, valuations and stock-specific developments. On Monday, Trent, Cipla and JSW Steel emerged as the top gainers, while Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank led the list of laggards.

Buying was visible in retail, healthcare and metal stocks, whereas banking names came under pressure, dragging down the financial pack. Despite the weakness in lenders, gains in select heavyweight stocks helped keep the broader market resilient.
