Mumbai, August 17: Petrol and diesel prices differed across cities, with Hyderabad recording the highest petrol price at ₹115.69 per litre and the highest diesel price at ₹103.82 per litre. But, Lucknow had the lowest petrol price at ₹101.89 per litre, while New Delhi recorded the lowest diesel price at ₹95.20 per litre.
Oil prices climbed on Monday after stalled US-Iran peace negotiations and a sharp decline in shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude futures rose 0.4% to $88.9 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 0.12% to $82.5 a barrel. Both benchmarks had advanced more than 5% last week after attacks on tankers and energy infrastructure in the region.
The latest gains came after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said there had been no decision to resume negotiations with the United States. US President Donald Trump urged Americans to be patient with higher gasoline prices as the conflict continues.
The biggest concern for oil markets is the declining flow of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies. Kpler data showed that only five commodity vessels crossed the waterway on Saturday, while no vessels passed through on Sunday. That compares with 31 commodity vessels during the previous weekend.
The sharp decline follows attacks on tankers in the region. The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of attacking vessels operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
The United Arab Emirates has said Iran targeted another ADNOC-operated tanker.
