Mumbai, October 29: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on Thursday, October 29. Petrol costs Rs 102.12 per litre in Delhi, Rs 111.21 in Mumbai and Rs 113.51 in Kolkata, while diesel is priced at Rs 95.20 per litre in Delhi, Rs 97.83 in Mumbai and Rs 99.82 in Kolkata. Among the listed cities, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram have some of the highest fuel prices, while Chandigarh records the lowest diesel rate at Rs 89.47 per litre.

Oil prices fell on Thursday as hopes of renewed diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran eased concerns over potential supply disruptions, although escalating attacks in the Middle East limited the decline. Brent crude futures dropped 1% to $114.2 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined 1.4% to $101.4. Both benchmarks had risen in the previous session, with Brent gaining 1.3% and WTI climbing 3%.

Selling pressure followed reports that US Vice President JD Vance had sent a letter to Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei seeking to revive peace negotiations. Qatar has also presented Tehran with a draft proposal to end the US-Israeli war, but an Iranian official dismissed the terms as unacceptable. Market participants remain cautious about whether diplomatic efforts can prevent a further escalation of the conflict.

Supply concerns continued to underpin prices as Houthi attacks intensified across the region. Yemen’s Houthis reportedly attacked Aden airport, while the group also claimed a missile strike on Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refinery, a facility with a capacity of 550,000 barrels per day. Saudi authorities had not confirmed the refinery attack. Investors are also weighing the risk of possible US military action against Iran after the November 3 midterm elections.

Separately, US crude inventories fell by 1.9 million barrels in the week ended October 23, against analysts’ expectations for a marginal increase, according to the US Energy Information Administration. However, gasoline stockpiles rose by 3.9 million barrels, compared with forecasts for a decline. For India, where crude imports account for a substantial share of energy requirements, oil prices remain a key variable for inflation, the import bill, the rupee and corporate profitability.
