Mumbai, June 4: Silver prices in India were unchanged on Thursday, with the national rate holding steady at ₹280 per gram or ₹2,800 per 10 grams and ₹2,80,000 per kilogram identical to Wednesday’s close. The fourth consecutive session without a move reflects a domestic market that continues to draw support from firm physical demand even as international precious metals markets remain cautious. Thursday’s flat open tracks closely with the broader pattern seen over the past week, during which silver has settled into a consolidation range following its sharp post-tariff spike to ₹3,100 per 10 grams in mid-May.
Thursday’s stability is underpinned by a convergence of factors that have kept the price anchored at current levels. International silver spot markets showed little directional movement overnight as traders processed mixed signals from the Middle East, where an Israel-Lebanon ceasefire agreement has raised tentative hopes of a broader diplomatic settlement but fresh Iranian strikes on Kuwait and continued Strait of Hormuz disruptions have kept risk sentiment fragile.

The rupee, which has been a key transmission channel for domestic silver pricing, held relatively steady, providing no fresh impetus in either direction. Industrial consumption particularly from electronics manufacturers, solar panel assemblers and silverware producers continued to underpin demand at the ₹2,800 floor.
Should silver prices rise from here, one factor that could catalyse a fresh upward move is the government’s tightening grip on imports. The central government has extended its silver import crackdown to cover grain and powder forms of the metal, requiring importers to obtain a valid import authorisation from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade before any shipment can proceed, according to a gazette notification issued on June 2.

The move is the government’s latest step in a concerted effort to contain surging overseas purchases of silver a metal for which India is the world’s largest consumer and reduce the drain on foreign exchange reserves at a time when elevated crude oil prices are already straining the current account. Any tightening of supply channels through stricter import controls could amplify upward pressure on prices if demand remains robust.
City-Wise Rates: Thursday vs Wednesday
Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala continued to trade at a ₹50 premium to the national benchmark, each holding at ₹2,850 per 10 grams unchanged from Wednesday. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad all remained at ₹2,800 per 10 grams for another flat session. The structural premium in southern markets persists, reflecting stronger retail and jewellery-segment demand that has kept those centres above the national rate throughout the post-tariff correction phase.
Gold Prices on Thursday
Gold prices in India were unchanged for a fourth consecutive session on Thursday, with the national price of 24-karat gold (99.9% purity) holding firm at ₹1,56,210 per 10 grams identical to Wednesday’s close. The 22-karat rate (91.6% purity) held steady at ₹1,43,190 per 10 grams and the 18-karat price (75% purity) also remained flat at ₹1,17,160 per 10 grams.

On a per-gram basis, 24K gold stands at ₹15,621, 22K at ₹14,319 and 18K at ₹11,716. The fourth session of zero movement in gold has reinforced the prevailing assessment that bullion markets are in a wait-and-watch mode, with traders reluctant to take fresh directional positions until there is greater clarity on the trajectory of the US-Iran conflict and its implications for global risk appetite.
