Mumbai, June 8: Silver prices in India extended their losing streak into Monday, June 8, falling sharply as fresh geopolitical turmoil from the Middle East rattled global commodity markets overnight. The national rate dropped to ₹260 per gram — or ₹2,600 per 10 grams and ₹2,60,000 per kilogram — a steep decline of ₹150 per 10 grams from Friday’s close of ₹2,750 in major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.

The steeper-than-usual single-session drop comes against a backdrop of Israel’s renewed strikes on Beirut and Iran’s retaliatory missile fire on Sunday — a fresh escalation that sent global risk sentiment into a tailspin and pushed investors away from industrial commodities, including silver. With international spot silver reacting sharply to the resurgent threat of a wider Middle East conflict, domestic prices have mirrored the move, reflecting India’s deep integration with global bullion benchmarks.

10-Gram Rate: A Sharp ₹150 Fall in Most Cities

For retail buyers and jewellers, the 10-gram benchmark is the most closely tracked unit — it is the standard measure for household purchases, gifting and small-scale savings in silver. Monday’s fall of ₹150 per 10 grams in the mainstream markets represents the sharpest single-session correction since silver peaked near ₹3,100 in mid-May. The selling has been swift and broad-based: in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, the 10-gram rate has moved from ₹2,750 on Friday to ₹2,600 today.

The southern markets — Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala — which carry a structural regional premium of ₹50 to ₹100 over the national benchmark, have also retreated: the 10-gram rate in these cities has slipped from ₹2,800 on Friday to ₹2,700 on Monday, a decline of ₹100. The uniform direction of the fall — even if the quantum differs slightly across regions — underscores that this is a macro-driven correction, not a localised supply or demand event.

City-Wise Rates: Monday vs Friday

Across India’s major cities, silver prices on Monday (June 8) are uniformly lower than Friday’s (June 6) close, though the quantum of decline varies slightly by region. In Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, today’s 10-gram rate stands at ₹2,600, down ₹150 from Friday’s ₹2,750 — a steeper drop than the ₹50 fall recorded just last Friday.

In the southern cities of Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala, the regional premium continues to hold even through the selloff: the 10-gram rate is ₹2,700 today, declining ₹100 from Friday’s ₹2,800, keeping the familiar ₹100 premium over mainstream markets intact. The gap between southern and northern prices has narrowed slightly — from ₹50 last week to ₹100 today — indicating that the south is absorbing part of the national correction even as strong jewellery demand in those markets provides a relative floor.

Gold Prices

Gold prices in India fell sharply at the start of the new week on Monday, even as renewed military exchanges between Israel and Iran over the weekend kept geopolitical tensions elevated. The national price of 24-karat gold (99.9% purity) declined to ₹1,52,720 per 10 grams, shedding ₹3,380 from Friday’s ₹1,56,100. The 22-karat rate (91.6% purity) fell to ₹1,39,990 per 10 grams, down ₹3,100 from Friday’s ₹1,43,090. The 18-karat price (75% purity) eased to ₹1,14,540 per 10 grams, retreating ₹2,530 from Friday’s ₹1,17,070. On a per-gram basis, 24K gold now stands at ₹15,272, 22K at ₹13,999 and 18K at ₹11,454.
