New Delhi, Sept 11: Silver rates today fell in India on Friday, erasing all of Thursday’s gain and then some. The white metal traded at ₹245 per gram, ₹2,450 per 10 grams and ₹2,45,000 per kilogram nationwide, down ₹100 per 10 grams, or nearly 4%, from Thursday’s uniform level of ₹2,550. Friday’s rate also sits below the ₹2,500 base that seven of the ten cities tracked here had held through the earlier part of the week, marking a fresh low for the week.

Friday’s fall kept intact the uniform national pricing that had first emerged on Thursday. All ten major cities tracked here moved by an identical ₹100 per 10 grams, meaning the pricing map stays flat across the country even as the level itself moved lower — a pattern that has now held for two sessions running after a week of two-tier pricing between a discounted group of cities and a smaller premium group.

Silver price in India largely follows international trends since demand and supply here is too thin to sway prices by itself. Demand from industry and investment buyers overseas, coupled with mining supply, determines global silver prices, while currency moves impact the rupee-cost of those imports. Global spot silver eased through Thursday night and into Friday’s opening trade, giving back the ground gained a day earlier as overseas buying interest cooled.

If the rupee holds steady against the dollar while international silver prices fall, it becomes cheaper for domestic buyers, and Friday’s move had that dynamic largely at play. A firmer US dollar overnight weighed on silver alongside gold, traders said, with the metal unable to hold on to Thursday’s brief burst of buying interest.

“Thursday’s move looks like it was more of a one-session pop than a real trend change,” said a Delhi-based dealer. “We’re back below where we started the week, so the standoff between buyers and sellers hasn’t really been resolved — it’s just tilted the other way for now.”

Retail buyers have continued to use silver purchases as an entry point into precious metals, and its lower price per gram compared with gold makes it a more accessible buy. Dealers said Friday’s dip could draw in price-sensitive buyers looking to purchase ahead of Monday’s Ganesh Chaturthi, even as the broader price trend remains unsettled after a volatile week.

India fetches daily nationwide silver rates from designated dealer forums in each city, compiled and published here each morning. These rates are subject to change by the time you arrive at a jewellery or bullion dealer later in the day, so confirm the price your jeweller will offer before making a purchase.

City-Wise Silver Rates: Thursday vs Friday

The table below sets Thursday’s (Sept 10) silver rates for 10 major Indian cities against Friday’s (Sept 11) rates, quoted per 10 grams. Every one of the ten cities fell by an identical ₹100, meaning the uniform pricing seen on Thursday has now held for a second straight session, just at a lower level.

On Friday, silver rates stand at ₹2,45,000 per kilogram in all ten cities tracked here, down from the uniform ₹2,55,000 seen on Thursday. Silver jewellery and ornaments typically cost more than the per-gram rates shown here due to making charges, plus a 3% GST levied on metallic silver.

“Two sessions of every city moving by the exact same amount is unusual, whichever direction it happens in,” said a dealer from Mumbai. “It suggests the moves right now are being driven almost entirely by global cues rather than anything local.”

Historically, silver always trades for less than gold on a per gram basis. Investors looking to gain silver exposure without buying the physical metal could check out Silver ETFs in India: https://hdfcsky.com/etf/silver-etf

Silver articles and jewellery typically contain other metals like copper, which let retailers mark up prices at the jewellery store. That’s why investors buying metallic silver should focus on bars and coins instead of jewellery. Pure silver is 999 fine.

Jewellery Stocks Today

Jewellery stocks put in a mixed session on Friday, a reversal from the broadly one-sided moves seen over the past two days. Silgo Retail led the decliners, down 1.80%, followed by Senco Gold, off 1.40%, and Vaibhav Global, down 1.25% — a sharp turnaround for a stock that had been the standout gainer through both Wednesday and Thursday. PN Gadgil Jewellers bucked the trend to become the session’s lone gainer, up a modest 0.10%, after having been among the weaker performers earlier in the week. Trading was still underway at the time of writing.

Jewellery Stocks (Late-Morning Trade)

Senco Gold’s intraday chart showed the stock opening flat at its previous close before sliding through the first half-hour to a low of ₹340.25, then recovering steadily through the rest of the morning to trade back near ₹345. PN Gadgil Jewellers opened sharply lower before staging a strong recovery, climbing from an early low of ₹598.70 to a high of ₹613.55 and holding on to most of those gains into late morning. Silgo Retail traded in an unusually flat band for almost the entire session, similar to its pattern on previous days, with little separation between its high and low through the morning. Vaibhav Global opened at its previous close before drifting lower through the first hour to a low of ₹211.43, then stabilising in a narrow range through the rest of the session without recovering its early losses.

Market watchers said Friday’s mixed session among jewellery counters, coming as silver itself gave back Thursday’s gain and then some, suggests stock-specific factors are once again playing a larger role than the underlying metal’s own price action. Dealers said Vaibhav Global’s reversal after two strong sessions and PN Gadgil Jewellers’ recovery from recent weakness were the two moves worth watching most closely heading into next week.
