Mumbai, July 13: Indian equity indices opened down on Monday and further dipped in early trade as they tracked the fresh escalation in tensions between Iran and the U.S., after Iran announced that it had again shut the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. and Iranian forces have exchanged heavy missile and drone assaults, with Tehran targeting U.S. facilities in states across the Gulf on Sunday. The renewed violence casts further doubt on the future of an interim U.S.-Iranian agreement signed last month that aimed to reopen the strait and end the war after a further 60 days of negotiations.
By 09: 38 am, the BSE Sensex was down 453.38 points or 0.58 per cent at 77,116.01 and the Nifty 50 fell 140.25 points or 0.58 per cent at 24,066.65.
