Mumbai, May 26: Stock exchanges the BSE and the National Stock Exchange will remain closed this Thursday, May 28, on account of Bakri Id, giving market participants a mid-week break and leaving Wednesday as the last full trading session before the holiday. The closure comes at a particularly active phase for markets, with US-Iran war developments, quarterly earnings and crude oil price movements keeping investors on their toes through every session.
After Thursday’s Bakri Id holiday, the next scheduled market closure will be on Friday, June 26, for Muharram, giving traders a short gap of less than a month between the two breaks. The second half of 2026 is considerably busier on the holiday calendar, with Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, and Dussehra on October 20 each shutting the exchanges for a day.
The festive season brings a cluster of closures in November, with Diwali Laxmi Pujan on November 8 marking a special case while the exchanges will be shut for regular trading, Muhurat Trading will take place on that day as per tradition, with exact timings to be notified separately by the exchanges. Diwali-Balipratipada on November 10 will be a full trading holiday. Prakash Gurpurb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev on November 24 and Christmas on December 25 round off the year’s holiday calendar.
