Motilal Oswal SIP Calculator
The Motilal Oswal SIP Calculator helps investors estimate the future value of their Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) in mutual funds. By entering a few basic details, you can get a clear projection of your investment returns over time, enabling better financial planning.
How the Motilal Oswal SIP Calculator Works
A SIP involves investing a fixed amount regularly—usually monthly—into a mutual fund. The calculator uses the compound interest formula to project the potential returns on your investments based on the amount, investment duration, and expected rate of return.
Key Inputs Required
- Monthly Investment Amount: The fixed amount you plan to invest every month.
- Investment Period: The total duration (in years) for which you intend to continue the SIP.
- Expected Annual Return Rate (%): The average annual return you expect from the Investment (typically 10–14% for equity mutual funds).
Output Provided
- Total Investment: The sum of all your monthly contributions.
- Estimated Returns: The earnings generated over time through compounding.
- Maturity Value: The total amount you may receive at the end of the investment period.
SIP Calculation Formula
The calculator uses the future value of a series formula:
Where:
- FV = Maturity amount
- P = SIP amount (monthly Investment)
- r = Expected monthly return rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
- n = Total number of SIP installments (years × 12)
Example Calculation
If you invest ₹5,000 per month for 10 years at an expected annual return of 12%:
- Total Investment: ₹6,00,000
- Estimated Returns: ₹5,38,892
- Maturity Value: ₹11,38,892
Benefits of Using the SIP Calculator
- Helps plan long-term wealth accumulation
- Enables comparison across different durations and returns
- It is easy to adjust inputs to model different investment goals
- Promotes disciplined and regular investing
