New Delhi: State-owned Coal India Ltd on Thursday reported a 57 per cent increase in consolidated profit after tax (PAT) to Rs 6,547 crore in the September quarter, aided by higher revenues.

The company had posted a consolidated PAT of Rs 4,167 crore in the year-ago period, Coal India Ltd (CIL) said in a filing to the BSE.

Consolidated revenue from operations rose 20.8 per cent to Rs 44,179 crore in the second quarter, up from Rs 36,553 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The board recommended a second interim dividend of Rs 10.25 per share for 2026-27.

CIL registered a capex of Rs 7,965.67 crore in the first half of the ongoing financial year, reflecting continued focus on investment and growth initiatives.

In a presentation, the company said that it incorporated a Singapore-based wholly owned arm, CIL Global Pte Ltd, in August to explore and develop overseas opportunities in the field of critical minerals asset acquisition, enable efficient management of overseas investments, and provide structural flexibility for future acquisitions.

The company produced 321 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the April-September period of the current fiscal year, compared with 329.14 MT of coal produced in the first half of the previous fiscal year.

Coal offtake, or the total volume of produced coal delivered or dispatched from mines to customers, increased to 384.20 MT in the first half of the current fiscal, up from 357.05 MT in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Coal India accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal production. Coal India Ltd is the main fuel supplier to the country’s power sector, providing the bulk of coal required by thermal power plants.

CIL has a coal production target of 815 million tonnes and an offtake target of 850 MT for financial year 2026’“27.
