Mumbai, Oct 30: Here are five stocks in focus on Friday, from 25 per cent profit rise for Trent to 53 per cent jump for Coal India to 69 per cent fall for Suzlon Energy to the first earnings of Jio Platforms as a listed company to return to profit for Vedanta Power. Here are some key points to note from today’s session.

Trent (TRENT)

Tata Group-owned retail company Trent posted a 25.3 per cent year-on-year (YoY) rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 468.09 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs 373.42 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

The numbers follow the company’s October 5 business update, which showed standalone revenue up 23 per cent to Rs 5,788 crore and the opening of the 1,000th Zudio store. Trent ended September with 1,342 stores, after net additions of 17 Zudio and 10 Westside stores in the quarter. The shares rallied sharply on October 6 after the update, but Trent was among the laggards on the Nifty 50 on Thursday. Sequentially, profit was lower than the Rs 518 crore reported in the June quarter.

Coal India (COALINDIA)

State-run Coal India reported a 53 per cent YoY surge in consolidated profit to Rs 6,516.1 crore for Q2 FY27, against Rs 4,258.8 crore in the year-ago quarter. Revenue rose 20.9 per cent to Rs 44,178.7 crore from Rs 36,553.1 crore.

On a sequential basis, profit fell about 26 per cent from Rs 8,852 crore in the June quarter, while revenue slipped from Rs 46,255 crore. The miner had declared an interim dividend of Rs 5.50 per share along with its Q1 FY27 results. Coal India accounts for over 80 per cent of India’s domestic coal output, so its numbers are closely tracked by investors.

Suzlon Energy (SUZLON)

Suzlon Energy reported a 69 per cent YoY drop in consolidated net profit to Rs 394 crore for the September quarter, against Rs 1,279 crore in Q2 FY26. However, revenue from operations climbed 26 per cent to Rs 4,869 crore, driven by record quarterly wind turbine deliveries of 710 MW.

The year-ago profit was boosted by a one-time deferred tax asset recognition of about Rs 717 crore, which makes the comparison steep. The 710 MW of deliveries compares with 565 MW in the year-ago quarter, a 26 per cent increase. Profit was higher than the Rs 305 crore posted in Q1 FY27, when the order book stood at about 6.1 GW. The shares fell sharply after those June quarter results in July.

Jio Platforms

Jio Platforms will announce its September-quarter earnings today, its first results since its stock market debut on October 28. The shares listed at Rs 1,358 against the issue price of Rs 1,119 and ended the debut session at Rs 1,419.

In the year-ago quarter, Jio Platforms posted a profit of Rs 7,379 crore on revenue of Rs 36,332 crore, which sets the benchmark for the numbers. For FY26, the company reported revenue of Rs 1,46,885.3 crore and PAT of Rs 30,049.1 crore. Parent Reliance Industries, which holds about 66.4 per cent, will also stay in focus as its board meets today to consider its results and a proposal to raise funds through non-convertible debentures.

Vedanta Power

Vedanta Power returned to profitability in the September quarter of FY27, reporting a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 83 crore against a net loss of Rs 1,688 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The company had posted a net loss of Rs 423 crore in Q1 FY27.

Revenue in Q1 rose 31 per cent to Rs 2,607 crore, but the loss included exceptional items and the impact of a boiler incident at the Sakti plant. Power sales rose 26 per cent to 5,593 million units in Q2, helped by stronger output at Meenakshi Energy and a 186 per cent jump in sales at the Jharsuguda thermal plant to 873 million units.
