Mumbai, July 13: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across India’s major metro cities on Monday, with rates holding steady in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, offering relief to consumers despite heightened volatility in global crude oil markets. However, fuel prices saw selective revisions in a handful of cities, with Chennai recording the steepest increase in both petrol and diesel rates, while Bengaluru, Lucknow, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram witnessed price cuts.

To be sure, global oil prices surged about 4% on Monday after fresh military strikes by the United States and Iran reignited concerns over crude supplies from the Middle East, with investors closely watching developments around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Brent crude futures climbed $3.10, or just over 4%, to $79.11 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained $2.9, or around 4%, to $74.32 a barrel. The rally came after the US launched fresh strikes on Iranian targets, prompting retaliatory attacks by Tehran on US-linked military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain.

The latest escalation has renewed fears over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane through which roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass. While US President Donald Trump said the waterway remained open, Iran claimed it had closed the strait following an incident involving an unauthorised vessel. Ship-tracking data showed only six vessels transited the route on Sunday, the lowest level in five weeks.

The renewed hostilities have cast doubt over a fragile interim agreement that had sought to ease tensions in the region. Although the International Energy Agency (IEA) said global oil supply recovered in June, production remains well below pre-conflict levels. Analysts said markets now expect heightened volatility, with crude prices likely to remain elevated as long as uncertainty over Middle East supplies persists.

Here’s a city-wise look at the latest petrol and diesel prices across India’s metros and key state capitals.

Petrol prices remained unchanged across most major Indian metro cities on Monday, with rates holding steady in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and several state capitals. The fuel price in the national capital stood at Rs 102.12 per litre, while Mumbai continued to have the highest petrol price among the four metros at Rs 111.21 per litre.

Among the metro cities, Chennai was the only one to witness a notable revision, with petrol prices rising Rs 1.69 per litre to Rs 109.45. Meanwhile, rates in Kolkata remained at Rs 113.51 per litre, while Gurgaon, Noida, Chandigarh and Jaipur saw no change in fuel prices.

A mixed trend was visible across state capitals. Bhubaneswar recorded a marginal increase of 25 paise to Rs 109.22 per litre, while Hyderabad saw a modest 4-paise rise to Rs 115.73 per litre, making it one of the costliest cities for petrol.

On the other hand, prices eased in a few cities. Petrol became 43 paise cheaper in Bengaluru, settling at Rs 111.25 per litre, while Lucknow, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram also registered declines of 27 paise, 56 paise and 71 paise, respectively. Fuel prices are revised daily.

Diesel Prices

A mixed trend was visible across other state capitals. Bhubaneswar witnessed a marginal increase of 24 paise, taking diesel prices to Rs 100.92 per litre, while Hyderabad remained one of the costliest cities at Rs 103.82 per litre despite no revision.

Meanwhile, diesel prices declined in a few cities. Rates fell by 42 paise in Bengaluru to Rs 99.14 per litre, while Lucknow, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram saw reductions of 30 paise, 55 paise and 77 paise, respectively. Fuel prices are revised daily.
