Mumbai, July 15: State-run oil marketing companies kept fuel prices unchanged across most metro cities and state capitals on Tuesday despite volatility in global crude oil prices. While rates remained steady in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and several other cities, Jaipur was the only major city to witness an increase in both petrol and diesel prices.

Crude oil prices extended their rally on Wednesday, with both Brent and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbing to their highest levels in a month after renewed military exchanges between the US and Iran intensified concerns over global energy supplies. The gains came as traders weighed the growing risk of disruptions in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit route for global oil exports.

Brent crude futures rose 1.2% to $85.8 a barrel, while US WTI crude gained 0.9% to $80 a barrel. Both benchmarks added to the previous session’s gains, supported by fears that the conflict could escalate further and impact crude shipments from the Gulf region.

Market sentiment deteriorated after the US reinstated a naval blockade on Iranian ports and carried out fresh strikes targeting Iran’s capabilities linked to attacks on commercial shipping. Iran retaliated with drone strikes on US-linked facilities in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, raising doubts over the durability of recent diplomatic efforts and increasing the likelihood of a prolonged conflict. The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass, remains at the centre of investor concerns.

Analysts said geopolitical developments have once again become the primary driver of oil prices, overshadowing broader macroeconomic factors. While some expect Brent crude to approach the $100-per-barrel mark if energy infrastructure suffers further damage or shipping disruptions worsen, any renewed diplomatic progress between Washington and Tehran could help ease supply concerns and temper the recent rally.

Here’s a look at the latest fuel rates across key Indian cities.

Petrol Prices

Petrol prices remained steady across most major Indian metro cities and state capitals on Tuesday despite continued volatility in global crude oil prices.

In the national capital, petrol continued to retail at Rs 102.12 per litre, while prices stood at Rs 111.21 in Mumbai, Rs 113.51 in Kolkata and Rs 107.76 in Chennai. The following cities also did not see any change: Gurgaon (Rs 102.97), Noida (Rs 101.96), Bengaluru (Rs 111.68), Chandigarh (Rs 101.54) and Lucknow (Rs 101.86).

Diesel Prices

Diesel prices remained unchanged across most metro cities and state capitals on Tuesday, with oil marketing companies keeping retail fuel rates steady even as international crude oil prices stayed elevated amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
